About this listen

Nora Newberry has been working to make her dreams come true and finally, after 10 years, it's time! She's moved back to her hometown of Milburn, Wyoming, and, together with her lifelong best friend, Raquel Madden, is opening the diner they've been planning since high school. Life couldn't be better...and it's time to celebrate!

Sadly, the celebration doesn't last long. Just three days before the diner is set to open its doors, Raquel is found murdered. And with no clear motive and little cooperation from the townspeople, Nora is thrown into a murder investigation that just may cause her to lose her own life.

I'm not sure why the heroine wanted to return to this town. No one is particularly likable. The underbelly is ugly and people aren't nice to her. She also did not bother to sue her uncles what they did to her. That just makes no sense to me. I also don't understand why her business partner, who was supposed to be so smart about business, did not have a will that left her money to the heroine instead of her horrible parents. That just seems like a cheap plot device to make things difficult for the heroin. The mysteries are just so-so and pretty unsatisfactory.

Why return to this town?

Narration was good. The characters were interesting, but the ending of the 2nd book really upset me. I listened to the 3rd book hoping to find out the true ending. Which I did, thankfully.

Hated the 2nd book's ending

I did not like the choice of Harvey as the boyfriend. I thought that in the good vs. evil that you chose to protray the policeman as almost evil character while the businessman (slightly crooked) as the better choice for the main character's beau. It was a hard choice to finish the book.

What disappointed you about A Murder in Milburn Box Set, Books 1-3?

The biggest issue is that in Book 1 and 2 the ending did not download. The ending was explained in the beginning of the books. This town is awful and I am still trying to decide if anyone is was the good guy. I could not decide who I liked. The author developed characters and then they became very different people.

Plot is good but characters are weak
