About this listen

Lady Charlotte Darrington’s path in life is clearly laid out before her: she will select a suitable husband, marry, and one day inherit her father’s Scottish dukedom. But a growing restlessness has her desperate for a bit of freedom before her all-too-certain future closes in. When the opportunity to travel to America arises, Charlotte leaps at the chance and soon finds herself across the Atlantic in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her American hosts and their friends couldn’t be more welcoming—all except one. The insufferable Dr. Galloway captures her eye—and her ire.

Life has made Dr. Alec Galloway wary of everyone, including the self-important Lady Charlotte Darrington, who thinks herself above Pittsburgh society. He makes no qualms about voicing his disapproval of Britain’s archaic peerage system, or of a certain peeress herself, though he never intended for his brusque opinions to reach her ears, sparking a conflagration neither could have foreseen. Yet as Charlotte gains insight into Alec’s wounded past, she offers him something that changes everything—her friendship. Despite Alec’s determination to keep everyone at bay, she slowly erodes his defenses, allowing him glimpses of a future he never imagined. Soon he must decide whether to face his past fears and grasp a second chance at love or risk losing Charlotte forever.

So good!

Read Heart in the Highlands first! Both are so good, and you definitely want to read them in order!

Shared small pleasures

Captivating love story. I do appreciate a happy ending. I appreciate alic sharing American food and the popcorn story was delightful. I had to make some myself. Well done.

Every bit as good as the first book

I loved reading Charlotte’s story. The author did a beautiful job incorporating parts of the first book without it feeling forced. This could easily be a stand-alone novel and not simply a sequel to “Hearts in the Highlands”.

I enjoyed seeing the personal growth in both of the main characters throughout the book. I did get frustrated a few times with Alec but that tension is what keeps you intrigued in a story, I suppose. And I loved the ending and epilogue! I also thought the author did a great, well-researched job with the historical aspects.

The narrator’s performance was solid. I know this will be a book I listen to over and over, just like Callum and Katie’s story.

Overall Good

Enjoyable read and the way it tied into the first book-love books on Scotland and the people current or historical

Such a sweet story of loss, healing, and hope.

I do so enjoy the way Heidi Kimball writes and Noah Wall brings the story to life. I hope the story continues and we discover what adventures are in store for Charlotte’s sister….and dear Tavish. This was a wondrous tale.

Wholesome

I hope the author continues the series. I did not want to stop listening. I normally don't write reviews but this is such a lovely storey it left me wanting more.

Sweet love story

If you are looking for a light read with an HEA, this is it. Historically accurate in most things the author still considers our 21st century sensibilities.

Not a favorite unfortunely

Enjoyed the book about her parents much more. Tedious at times. Strong Christian elements. I do enjoy Noah Wall's narration though.
