About this listen

Aaron Envelar thought a sellsword's life was as dangerous as any life could be.

He was wrong.

Trapped in a conquered city with a reward on their heads, Aaron and his companions must find a way to elude the soldiers pursuing them while he struggles to understand his bond with Co, a magical creature of myth and the Virtue of Compassion. There is power within the bond, power that could help him protect his friends, if he's lucky enough to master it before the darkness within the bond consumes him.

But luck, Aaron knows, is a blade reached for in the dark, the man who grasps it as likely to bleed for his trouble as find the handle.

Stalked by Belgarin's soldiers, Aaron and his companions struggle to find allies before it's too late. But Belgarin's army is not the only danger they face, and even should they escape, even should Aaron master his bond with a legendary creature of magic, they may still fail. They may still die.

For there are other legends in the world, other magic. And not all legends are good ones. Not all magic is benign.

Engaging Story

This is the second book in the Silent Blade series and it was just as good if not better than the first book. Also, Steven Brand did an outstanding job . Mr Brand is in my top 5 list of great narrators.

Finally! Something new for the genre!

Sword and sorcercy has been lacking a new angle for years without getting wierd/ "unrealistic"/ to complicated, this series is a breath of fresh air and more! bought all three after only a few chapters of the first book and never regreted it

Great Adult Fantasy Fiction.

This series continues to impress. My only complaint would be a lack of vocal diversity. However, the reading is good enough it does not disappoint.

Liking where this is going.

This one was a little hard to get into, but once there, I was all in. Action, character - it's all there. Our heroes are fighting an uphill battle, but by the end of this one, at least there's a glimmer of hope. The series is the Seven Virtues, so I assume I've got five more books to go. The impact the virtues have on those they inhabit is interesting - their presence aiding good or evil depending on the person they come into. Four of them have shown themselves in the story so far. Three to go.

****Spoiler*****
I expected Aaron to kill Carlisle and take the virtue of adaptability. I expected Aaron to be the single vessel that finds and contains all the virtues, becoming an unstoppable warrior for good. That isn't what's happening. Instead, the virtues are showing themselves as players in the battle of the kingdoms. Far more interesting story, IMO.
