About this listen

Best-selling, award-winning author Tracie Peterson infuses her compelling novels with practical faith and courage. In this story of one contemporary family, she deftly weaves together the lives of five very different young women as they face life's tragedies and triumphs.

Abandoned by their mother while they were still small children, the Mitchell sisters have always felt the pain of rejection. Their search for love and a sense of worth drives them apart by the time they are adults. But when their mother, now a famous actress, suffers an untimely death, the five reunite for the funeral. There, they begin to salvage frayed relationships, held together only by a slender thread.

As new trials come their way, the women struggle to maintain the tenuous bonds of sisterhood and find a reason to go on. Narrator Ruth Ann Phimister will keep listeners captivated as each of the sisters experiences the healing power of love and acceptance.

A Slender Thread

I would thoroughly recommend this book - I usually reserve my audiobooks for when I'm on the treadmill but I couldn't wait to see how the sisters would all come together so sat up one night to finish listening. Tracie weaves a rather true to life story not only showing how often things that happen to us in life affect the choices we make but it showed what often happens amonst siblings as they grow up and leave their family home. I loved what the quilt illustrated. Thank you Tracie and thank you Ruth - I really enjoyed your reading of this story.

Estes Park

Enjoyed the book and the narration.
But every time she said Estes I felt like nails on a chalkboard. Estes is pronounced 'Est-iss' not '-ees', not ' -ays'. I'm surprised it wasn't researched better, I really enjoy her narrations. Often searching for books she narrates.
Thanks

Inspiring and superb read! Life changing!

Where does A Slender Thread rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's rated tops on my list! While it took me a couple of chapters to learn all the characters it was well worth the read!!! If there were ten******** I would give this book ten stars! I definitely will read/listen again.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mattie is my favorite character being a grandmother and taking in her daughter's five small children raising them in a very good home with great values yet what happens to these five girls and how do they turn out!?! A must read!

Which scene was your favorite?

The piece quilt and it's meaning and what will happen to this special Mitchell quilt! There were many other scenes as well. There isn't a dull moment with this book!

If you could take any character from A Slender Thread out to dinner, who would it be and why?

All of them! Everyone had their own problems and value; taking them one at a time would be fruitful!

Any additional comments?

This is a must read book! There is sadness, joy, complications in relationships but what Mattie achieves through her beliefs along with Harry makes for a stronger belief. I found the entire story with hope and inspiration leaving me changed. Absolutely amazing story!!!!The scenery on the farm is appealing to ones heart. The title "A Slender Thread" is so much more than a title!! I enjoyed this magnificent audio!!!

Faith, Family and Forgiveness

A great listen by author Tracie Peterson, especially so for women, mothers and grandmothers. If you are looking for an action-packed story, look elsewhere. If you’re a Christian, seeking peace in the midst of the storm, this one is for you. As the mother of five kids and ten grandkids, this tale of grandmother Mattie Mitchell, who had raised all five of her daughter’s girls after her daughter abandoned them was a hard-hitting one for me. All five granddaughters have gathered with Mattie on her farm in Kansas, because their actress mother has committed suicide. Home for the funeral of a mother they’ve never really known, the reunion sparks memories of their childhood, both good and bad. As each young woman returns to their busy lives, the memories of unfulfilled hopes and dreams travel with them, and the realization that many of the choices they’ve made are rooted in the past. Coming to terms with the loss of what could never be, each granddaughter begins a new journey . . . of coping, wrestling with each other, those they love and particularly with God, and trying to determine just who they want to become. Life jarring circumstances come to each young woman, forcing them to individually evaluate their future, their relationship with God and the role of faith and family. This isn’t a “pretty” little Christian story tied up in a bow, just as none of our lives as followers of Christ are. That’s what I like about this author. We make big mistakes. We get off the steep and narrow road. And we all need a Grandma like Mattie.

Not Interesting or Engaging..

Couldn't finish this...the characters weren't interesting or engaging, a lot of self centered introspection going on. There wasn't much of a plot or anything to grab. I found it dry and very predictable.
