About this listen

As seen on Good Morning America and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

“One of the smartest, sharpest, and funniest books I’ve read in years.... Some books are meant to be devoured - this one does the devouring.” (Emily Henry, number one New York Times bes-selling author of People We Meet on Vacation

It’s a club like no other. Only the most important women receive an invitation. But one daring young reporter is about to infiltrate this female-run secret society, whose bewitching members are caught up in a dark and treacherous business. From the author of Happy and You Know It.

For years, rumors have swirled about an exclusive, women-only social club where the elite tastemakers of NYC meet. People in the know whisper all sorts of claims: Membership dues cost $1,000 a month. Last time Rihanna was in town, she stopped by and got her aura read. The women even handpicked the city's first female mayor. But no one knows for sure.

That is, until journalist Jillian Beckley decides she's going to break into the club. With her career in freefall, Jillian needs a juicy scoop, and she has a personal interest in bringing these women down. But the deeper she gets into this new world - where billionaire "girlbosses" mingle with occult-obsessed Bohemians - the more Jillian learns that bad things happen to those who dare to question the club's motives or giggle at its outlandish rituals.

The select group of women who populate the club may be far more powerful than she ever imagined.

And far more dangerous too.

Great easy listen!

I loved the narrator of this title, Her voice was amazing without being distracting for the different characters. I loved the story as well. It was an easy listen, it had great characters, and I enjoyed hanging out with them as I drove and worked on my computer. I listened to it as often as I could until I was finished. I recommend this title, author and narrator.

Kept waiting for the twist?

I don’t even really know how to describe my feelings for this book. It was…fine? Not horrible but not good or engaging.
Someone said there would be a big shocking twist and I literally have no idea what part of the book they would have been referring to.
Im also not convinced the main character liked women. Got a very “not like other girls” middle school vibe.
The author read the book very nicely though which I appreciated.

Page turner! So much fun

This is a great listen that keeps you coming back until the end! Hankin weaves the perfect blend of mystery, clever observation, and whip-smart turn of phrase to make this one of the most fun reads/listens in a long time.

Then it Got Absurd

Started out as a fun read, maybe with political overtones, then it just went off the crazy rails.

A Little Bit Dark

Fun. Well read but not as well written. The characters were unremarkable and predictable. I’m glad I listened till the end. Our heroine finally quit skulking around and took charge and became a better version of herself. Good ending!

Neat Story and Plotline!

I actually like it! Pretty fun read! Also a decent dive into personal matters for the characters.

Good story, narration okay

Liked the idea behind the story. Narration reminded me of a spoiled millennial. Pretty good, but would have been better if reading a hard copy.

Not for me

I found this story flimsy. Thought it would be much more about the “club” and what went on. But in my opinion that was a sub plot to the friend / romance story.
