About this listen

The cold, blustery Midwest winters don't exactly agree with Betsy Devonshire, but since moving to Excelsior, Minnestoa, she sure has met a lot of warm, friendly people. So she isn't too surprised when the town's most talented needleworkers volunteer to restore a damaged tapestry that was found in the basement of a local church. Betsy even offers to donate materials for the project, thinking that the free publicity will boost sales at her financially troubled needlecraft shop. But soon Betsy is afraid of losing more than her business - because her good intentions have unleashed some deadly secrets....

Found narration unnatural and a bit cumbersome.

Did Susan Boyce do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

I have not listened to the entire book, but the characters are differentiated well. I did find, however, that the narration was cumbersome and difficult to listen to because much of the time the words were too carefully enunciated and the.pauses.between.words.were.too.long! I have found this to be an inconsistent problem since some sections of the book are fine and others are not. For this reason i have not been enjoying this book.

Wonderful Mystery

I have listened to four of Monica Ferris' mysteries and thoroughly enjoyed each and every one of them.

Her stories are sometimes very serious and sometimes make you laugh out loud.

Also, the narration by Susan Boyce is very good.

You will not be able to stop listening or reading until you finish the whole mystery.

Great series.

This is the third book in the series, and it is just as good as the first two. I love this series.

Great mystery

A stitch in time is an excellent mystery.
A tapestry is uncovered during a church renovation. Betsy & her shop offer to provide materials to restore the tapestry.
Then Betsy's ex comes to town, trying to convince her to take him back.
Not long after an attempt is made on Betsy's life. Now the murder Betsy needs to solve is her own, before her mysterious enemy succeeds for good.

easy-going cozy with flawed narration

Two problems with the narration:
1) There are big empty spaces that should have been edited out — in this book and its predecessor, I kept thinking my phone had turned itself off!

2) The narrator makes decent character voices, but apparently has rarely heard human speech — lots of bizarrely parsed sentences, strange words emphasized, idioms mangled. Also, I guess she’s never met a gay person? That accent/character is way off.

Anyway, this series is cute, but…

Fun Mystery

Every time I read a book in this series I wish I lived in Excelsior with Betsy and Jill. I love the plot, characters and setting in the series. Which is a good thing for this book. I figured out the who and the why midway through the book. However, I enjoyed listening to the plot unfold. Betsy and her supporting crew are delightful. The ending while predictable, did have a couple of surprises at the end.
This story also gave the audience and Betsy a chance to say a final goodbye to her ex husband. A fun and delightful read for anyone who likes cozy mysteries.

Don't Take Him Back

When Betty's ex husband shows up hoping to get part of her inheritance, I was disappointed that she even opened her door The main appeal of older characters is that they are usually smarter from life experiences.

Fun listen for any Textilers

Fun but relatively simple story - part of a multi book mystery series; however it’s the interwoven facts about textile and needle craft arts which keep bringing me back. Quality of series would be much improved with a stronger performer.
