About this listen

A seemingly impossible mystery tests the keen mind and forensic skills of Joanna Blalock, the daughter of Sherlock Holmes and the heir to his unique talent for deduction, from USA Today bestselling author Leonard Goldberg.

The following case has not previously been disclosed to the public due to the sensitive information on foreign affairs. All those involved were previously bound by the Official Secrets Act. With the passage of time and the onset of the Great War, these impediments have been removed and the story can now be safely told.

When an executed original of a secret treaty between England and France, known as the French Treaty, is stolen from the country estate of Lord Halifax, Scotland Yard asks Joanna, Dr. John Watson, Jr., and Dr. John Watson, Sr. to use their detective skills to participate in the hunt for the missing treaty. As the government becomes more restless to find the missing document and traditional investigative means fail to turn up the culprit, Joanna is forced to devise a clever plan to trap the thief and recover the missing treaty.

Told from the point of view of Dr. John Watson, Jr. in a style similar to the original Sherlock Holmes stories, A Study in Treason is based partly on facts in our world and partly on the facts left to us by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

A Study in Treason is the perfect audiobook for fans of Sherlock Holmes.

Critic reviews

"The second in the Daughter of Sherlock Holmes series shows Joanna Blalock, daughter of Holmes and Irene Adler, at the top of her detecting game. Narrator Steve West is quite amazing transforming himself into Dr. Watson, his son and, most impressively, into Joanna. ...Don't miss the fun!" -AudioFile

"Goldberg matches the style of Conan Doyle's stories and adds the fillip of a female protagonist." —Kirkus Reviews

“Avid Sherlockians will be delighted with the many echoes of the original Holmes canon.” —Publishers Weekly

Sherlock Holmes's daughter

Enjoyed the take a lot. Very much like Doyle might have told it. Some good Sherlock-like twists & a nice turn. One difference is that Doyle would have probably been a bit more compact & taken half to 2/3 of the number of words to tell the story. However, minor character development was not his strength and I do enjoy that part of Goldberg's style. So, starting book three now.

Very good. Better than the first book.

Good story, Good writer, Series has not been a disappointment! If you're a purist sorry. Sherlock comes back in all his mental wizardry thru his daughter. Can't sniff at the Reader either!

Sounds like Sherlock

I do like these two books of Leonard Goldberg has written on Sherlock Holmes daughter. He writes a masterful mystery. And I like the characters he's created of Watson and Sherlock Holmes' daughter, Joanna Blalock Watson. However, I am beginning to very much DISlike the character of Watson's son/Joanna's husband John Watson Jr. because he is so dense! He continually, throughout the entire book(s), asks stupid questions of his wife and father. I am not a detective, and even I understand the conclusions that his wife, (Sherlock Holmes' daughter) is talking of - but he rarely seems to be able to think his way to the correct conclusion. I just cannot imagine that an ultra intelligent woman with a keen deductive sense, would marry such a dunce! Also, by just reading Leonard Goldberg's two books, I think they are very formulaic - an intelligent detective against police that want the easy conclusion and are completely dense themselves!
Aside from those character points I've raised - I DO like Steve West's narration! He is very good at voicing each character, and reads at a good pace..... his voice is not annoying, as some Audible narrators are, and he reads so well that you almost forget that he is narrating and think you are reading! THAT is the sign of a good narrator!
Overall, I like the books' stories, and do hope that Leonard Goldberg continues this series (with some of his character's flaws overcome!). It is a very good concept - The Daughter of Sherlock Holmes.

Very good narration by Steve West! Good story!

Absolutely loved this book. The character is exactly who you would picture the daughter of Sherlock Holmes to be like. I like all books that are narrated by Steve West. This book is exquisite. It's going to be a wonderful series.

I can't wait for the next one

Great Fun!. In the tradition of the regular Sherlock Homes stories. A nice twist having his daughter being the private consulting detective besting Scotland Yard at the game of deduction and bringing the guilty to justice. The turn of phrase is quite similar and the younger John Watson is an able partner for Sherlock's daughter. Looking forward to more in this series.

Sherlock's Daughter amazes again
