About this listen

Meeting your heroes from the past is awesome. Unless you get stuck with them forever.

When the opportunity of a lifetime ends in disaster, Amelia Cabrera doesn’t know if she can stomach any more disappointment. Her mother offers her a consolation trip to a quirky B&B, where she expects a quiet weekend to mourn the setback in her chef career. Until the man she’s always secretly crushed on shows up at the door—and he might even think they are supposed to be going on a date.

Nolan Reed has been hanging on the verge of pitching for the Majors for years. A no-hitter could be his big break—until a disastrous elbow injury sends him packing. Then he gets asked out by the girl next door. His best friend’s little sister, who’s always been out of his league. But when the inn she’s staying at mysteriously transports them to the 1920s where he could play ball with Babe Ruth, will the charms of the past cost him his chance at a future with her?

The narrator is a problem

I am leaving this review based solely upon the narrator. I’ve already listened to five of these stories but now I just have to say something. The story itself is very entertaining and I like that. It’s a clean story that I don’t have to worry if my kids over here. The narrator, however, is a problem. In this particular book, it’s much more profound. In earlier books, I overlooked some occasional mispronunciations and odd accent. But in this one, it’s almost as though the narrator doesn’t know the story and is changing her voices as she goes. The main female character starts with a pretty strong accent. As we learn more about her, we find that she is a fourth generation Cuban American. Clearly, she would not have a heavy accent. The narrator realizes this and starts to lessen the accent as she goes. it would have been so much better if she recorded and corrected the accent for the entire length of the book. Also, she tends to get too close to her microphone, especially when using any kind of voice of authority. This makes a very unpleasant tin quality to the voice. one of my kids happened to listen to a piece of this book and she also commented on the narrator and how she would not want to listen to this book simply because of that. When I finish this series, I will add this narrator to my list of those to avoid.
