2018 Dragon Award Finalist - Best Fantasy Novel

Centuries ago, the followers of the new gods defeated the old gods, and the folk of legend were banished from the world. With their departure, magic faded from the land. However, the Milesian Accords provided for a new challenge, and its time rapidly approaches.

The descendant of the druid who participated in the original challenge, Liam Knox, must forge the sword for the Champion to wield, and write the next set of Accords. Time is running out, though, and the minions of the new gods will stop at nothing to ensure he fails in his tasks.

The descendent of the legendary hero Cu Chulainn, Erin Donnelly, has gone to Dunos Scaith, a fortress out of time and space, to train for the Challenge to come. Interruptions and distractions abound, though, including the potential for new love...and she is being hunted as well.

Both Druid and Champion are running out of time as the Challenge approaches - a challenge that could end the world as we know it - and neither is likely to be ready in time. They must trust in each other and their friends...but what if that trust is misplaced?

Erin god damnit

I’m all for women doing things they want as long as it’s consenting adults, I am a woman and when I was single I had a few flings but she clearly liked Liam, finds the father of her child again after over a decade and within a week of leaving her kid with him she has a new crush….like I want to get it but I can’t get it, I’m ok that she hooked up with someone else but I dislike how instantly she was over Liam I feel like if she wasn’t pregnant with his daughter her and her guide would have done it at the first opportunity…maybe it’s too real for me because I can see this happening in real life with people separate for 7 years but in a book I like the unrealistic loyalty and romance I guess from the first book and how he kept turning pixel down I thought they would end up together against all odds now I truly don’t care if they end up together I hope they coparent but the idea of them as a romantic pair is ruined for me I like Erin in every other way but she didn’t even give her and Liam (the father of both her kids) a real chance

not bad

it's not a bad story but I hate how the champion is a slut who can't keep her hands off the druid/father of her son and she makes it clear to the druid she doesn't want a relationship with him but gets passed off when other women takes a interest in him but she wants to screw everything that takes a interest in her it would be a lot better if Erin dies and Tim was champion

Conflicted

Interesting premise continuing from the first book. I am beginning to dislike the campion more and more. I do not have a problem with her messing around on Liam (it is 7 year and all and she has made it plain the she is not that interested in him) but to continually blame it on magic and alcohol is just a cope out. Women condemn that kind of behavior in men.

entertaining

Apart from the "will they get together?" trope thing, the series is pretty fun.

Strong story telling and relationship dynamics

Very fun listen. Not as predictable as many urban fantasy. Great delve into non-traditional family and relationship dynamics.

Yes!

Loved the narrator. I disagree with some of the other reviews talking about how the book is only about Erin’s love life. Not true! There is so much that happens with the story line. Really enjoyed and about to get the next book now.

In gauging

Story was excellent and flowed smoothly. It was not confusing going from scene to scene.

Good character development.

Another cliffhanger ending, but a good story overall. Would like to see them flesh out Erin’s background so we have a better understanding of why she makes some of her decisions. The narrator does a really good job on the different characters, and is a pleasure to listen to. Will definitely purchase the next book in the series.

I cried lol

I've read the some of the reviews and while yes the justification dialog could be cut down a bit and at moments it can be predictable, within a few sentences, it is still a fun story and the characters are well written in my opinion. some moments have me literally laughing out loud and some have brought me to tears. I love these books so far, I can't wait to start the next one
