About this listen

A Walk with Purpose chronicles Becker's career path from an investment advisor to chief executive officer of an oncology-focused biotechnology company, and finally into a terminal cancer patient confronting his own mortality. It is a memoir about both his life and illness, battling stage 4 head and neck cancer. He was diagnosed in late 2015.

This is the story of a man's life, someone who looked back as he unfortunately faced his own mortality due to the onset of terminal cancer. The lessons to be learned from Michael Becker and this book go well beyond those dealing with cancer. I urge you to read this book. It is a fascinating story of one man's life. He has truly made his life "A Walk With Purpose." I cannot imagine anyone reading this book and not find it adds to their life and living.

I was terribly disappointed in the lack of uplifting useful content in this book. My opinion stems from my anticipation of something inspirational on how the author's illness and adversity with cancer changed his purpose and walk in life. Perhaps even how God was at work in his life. Instead, most of the book features the chronicles of his work career leading up to his illness, and then too many not very useful details of his diagnosis and treatment regiment.

I can personally relate to his illness having gone through a very similar path more recently than the author's journey. My own perspective on this type of adversity is it's a means for God's transformational work in who we are and our purposeful walk going forward.

My heart goes out to his wife and daughters having lived through that adversity with Mr. Becker. It was evident they loved him very much and were by his side throughout his battle.
