About this listen

Reunited with her sister at last, Louisa settles in colonial Virginia, but an unexpected visitor throws life into turmoil once again by offering Valerie and Louisa an opportunity to return to the future. Before the sisters have a chance to make a decision, the unthinkable happens, ripping the family apart and scattering them over continents and time itself.

No one is spared as child is torn from parents, sister is parted from sister, and a devastating famine threatens the colony. The Whitfields and Sheridans must fight for survival and face challenges they never imagined as they are cast a world apart.

I loved, loved this installment of the Whitfield and Sheridan‘s time traveling historical romance. The story hooked me in and took me along for a thrilling and emotional ride. This series just keeps getting better and the history nerd in me enjoyed the historical references and the glimpses of 17th and 18th century life. The Whitfields and the Sheridans have settled into 17th century life in Virginia. Mr. Taylor, the man from the 21st-century with the time traveling device, shows up to make amends and offer to bring Louisa and Valerie back to the future. This just sets off a chain of unfortunate events that leave the families separated by miles and time as they each need to deal with the harshness of the time periods and the fickleness of time travel. The story is told through multiple points of view including Valerie, Louisa, Alec, Kit and Finn - which helped to round out some aspects of the story with less telling and more showing. The story was well written and included three dimensional characters and an engaging storyline as shown through mystery, sweet moments, spice, laughs, messy families, painful pasts, surprises, danger, plot twists, fate, and love. I am excited to read more in the series. 4.5 stars.

Fiona Small did a wonderful job narrating the story and characters into life with enough change of inflection, tone and cadence to voice multiple characters quite convincingly.

I have loved the hands of time series! It is by far one of my favorite series and is read by my favorite narrator of all her books. Of irina Shapiro’s books my favorites have been this series, the inheritance, the wonderland series, house on the hill and haunted ground.

One of my favorite series

The story does a good job of holding your attention and keeping you anticipating the next events. Irina Shapiro, again, weaves a tale that is satisfying and interesting with twists and turns that make the reader want more. The narration could have been a little more interesting with distinction between the characters. It was more like having a story read by a librarian. In spite of this, the tale is captivating.

Delightfully entertaining

I have enjoyed this Hands of Time series. Traveling from one century to another is such a fantastical idea and Irina Shapiro brings in detail of each year where her characters land. The family continues to have adventures wherever they are. My only wish is that the sex wasn’t quite so graphic.
The narrator has a sweet voice however does not distinguish between characters well especially males.

Another engaging tale

I loved this book. The storyline and the details made the characters and their time period come to life

Wonderful!

I enjoyed this book much better than the 2nd one, this one had a lot more love story, and a lot more thrilling adventure, a major plot twist and even a few tears. The 2nd book seemed to be a bit more "filler" we learned a lot about the characters, but I could put it down more easily. This 3rd book was harder to put down as I wanted to find out what happened next, and there were quite a few life-altering challenges for all the characters! I thought the ending was a bit hurried and abrupt though, not a cliffhanger but it could have not rushed so much through the ending and epilogue, but it looks like there may be some more books in this series coming? so maybe we will get a more in-depth "epilogue" later on!

The narrator Fiona Small was OK, but in this book in particular I did have a much harder time distinguishing between the characters since we "heard" from a lot more characters POVs this time, the first book was mostly Valerie, Finn and Alex with the 2nd book adding a bit more with POVs from Louisa and Kit. In this 3rd book, however, we also start to hear from "little" Louisa and "little" Alex with very little to differentiate between them all, but she was pleasant to listen to.

Great Plot Twist!

I loved this book and didn't want it to end. I hope there will be more in this series. the narrator was one of the best Uve listened to. Irina Shapiro is a wonderful author. I read or listen to everything she writes and have never been disappointed.

wonderful story! wonderful series!

This book moves along quicker than the last two. The characters don't have much depth, and this book has many more characters. It was hard to keep them straight when the narrator keeps using a monotone that never changes inflection emotions.

This one moves a little quicker
