Publisher's summary

Ophelia Castellan will never be just another girl at Elsinore Academy. Seeing ghosts is not a skill prized in future society wives. Even when she takes her pills, the bean sidhe beckon, reminding her of a promise to her dead mother.

Now, in the wake of the Headmaster's sudden death, the whole academy is in turmoil, and Ophelia can no longer ignore the fae. Especially once she starts seeing the Headmaster's ghosts - two of them - on the school grounds. Her only confidante is Dane, the Headmaster's grieving son. Yet even as she gives more of herself to him, Dane spirals toward a tragic fate dragging Ophelia, and the rest of Elsinore, with him.

You know how this story ends. Yet even in the face of certain death, Ophelia has a choice to make and a promise to keep.

A Hamlet Retelling

if it is not glaringly obvious, this is the story of Hamlet. I'm still pretty early into the book, but I really enjoy the narrator and I like the tension she gives

A story of love, desperation, and heartache.

A well written story, the narrator brings the words to life, and draws the reader into to the story.

Sadness

So very sad. Disappointed that the story was left hanging with no apparent sequel to bring closure, but then again it is a tragedy and tragedy rarely lends itself to real closure.

Overall disappointing

I loved the idea of this story much more than the execution of it. The ending left too much hanging. The main female character was weak and seemed to have no mind of her own. Maybe that was the point but I found it highly annoying. The male counterpart was abusive and not much more in control of himself. The "fae" aspect of this story seemed to be a wholly different story that didn't really make sense. Overall Not happy

Disappointed

I adore the butterfly garden series. Hutchinson did such an amazing job with them I can't count how many times I read / listen to them, but in this story I find it disappointing in comparison. I had a hard time getting through to the end. The end leaves much to be desired. I'm not sure if ill ever touch this particular story again.

Can Not Recommend!!!!

After reading Dot Hutchinson's second published novel, "The Butterfly Garden," I wanted to read her other and first published work. What a disappointment. This is a work that romanticizes death and suicide with poetic and flowery language. I found myself rolling my eyes throughout its telling and was glad when it finally ended. I wished that I had returned it.

Nothing like butterfly garden

This was entirely disappointing. If you want a dreary description of what depression and pathetic hopelessness sounds and feels like then be my guest. This was nothing like her current books. Her writing clearly gets better with time. I only finished this book out of respect for the author. I do not recommend this specific book.
