Publisher's summary

Confronting the past is never easy.

Cole Whitaker is happy. He has the job and boyfriend he always wanted. His heart's in no danger of being broken, and he can't ask for more from life. As a kindergarten teacher, he sees it all; however, one troublesome student has him reaching out to the parent, wanting to help. There's something about Savanah that tugs at his heartstrings.

He never expected her father.

Zander Brooks hasn't had an easy life, and he's made some mistakes. Freshly retired from the military and working as a firefighter, Zander thought he'd left Cole in the rearview mirror. He's not expecting him to appear in St. Petersburg, Florida, of all places, teaching his daughter's kindergarten class. Suddenly, his biggest mistake is being shoved in his face.

This is Zander's chance to close a door he'd never fully shut, but time with his former flame might change his mind.

Contains mature themes.

Nice HEA

Good story. Liked the dynamics of the MCs. Happy they were an interracial couple. Serendipity/fate vibes. Narration was good.

A slow story, mesmerizing narration, give it a listen!

This book isn’t going to change your life. However, generally likable characters and an emotional backstory have plenty to offer. Harding chooses to focus tightly on the MCs, she deftly handles the supporting cast to remain present in dialogue and plot points avoiding what many writers do: have throw away characters who show up for a scene and are never mentioned again. The consistency of their world helps propel the story.

That narrator’s delivery was so smooth and personal that a times it was like he was whispering in my ear. Sinclair chose to have breathy delivery for Cole and Cole’s existing BF Patrick that at times were borderline femme without descriptions supporting this decision. He handled the daughter quite well - children can be a narrator’s Achilles heel.

The plot is surprisingly busy, which made the pace a bit frustrating. Also, be glad there isn’t much sex, it isn’t written well - more like it was an obligation to include.

Overall enjoyable, there are some very sweet moments throughout. Recommended.

Weak, lacking, no depth

I've had a bit of a dry spell, so I was really excited...for the first few chapters.

I was desparate to love their story, but the absence of any creativity, character development, believable chemistry, genuine intimacy made it impossible.

It was like reading about average people, living average lives, doing average things, with some -- under-used, poorly written -- previous and current drama.

I think one of the biggest flaws was WAY TOO MUCH "MC3": the 5 y/o daughter of MC2, and student of MC1. Her near constant presence soon became distracting and annoying, especially given how short the book is.

For instance, 3 uneventful scenes were her and Dad grocery shopping.

STEAM: a few, IMO, forgettable scenes.

I powered through the entire book, and I do no recommend it.
