About this listen

The eagerly awaited sequel to Blood on the Blade.

When you live at the edge of the world with a volcano for a neighbour and bloodthirsty warriors who wish to end your existence then a voyage towards the edge of the world is possible.

Seeking a new home for the Clan of the Fox, Erik the Navigator, with his younger brother and three companions, leaves Iceland for a land he does not know exists. In the smallest of ships, they face seas which would daunt any sailor, and they discover a new land. They find a home but one which is fraught with danger.

Found Wanting

Let me start off by saying that I truly enjoy this series. The storyline is great. The narration is superb.

My issue is with the lack of research of the Norse Gods and Goddesses. Ran is the Goddess of the sea and should therefore be referred to as such. The author on multiple occasions referred to Ran as a male. Next, one of the characters die of an illness during the return trip home. The author writes that a sword was placed in the dying man's hand so that he will be welcomed in Valhalla. Well that's not how it works. This character would have ended up in Helhiem, which is where those that die from illness, old age, and less than courageous deaths end up. At another point in the book the author refers to Odin as beating on his anvil with his hammer. What in Midgard are you talking about? Thor was is the only God wield a hammer, and he was not a blacksmith. Lastly the author says something about Odin making it rain. Once again WTF....Thor is considered to be the God of thunder. SMDH.

If you're going to weave the Gods into your storyline, do so with some respect and knowledge.

Other than that, I highly recommend this book and the rest of the series.

The New World Explored

I loved this book and couldn't put it down. The relatively unknown explorations of the vikings to the new world is fascinating. Insight into the courage and ability of making such a voyage and the dangers they faced is inspiring. The narration was exceptional and the story continues. This author covers many historical events and this is another historical fiction that is brilliantly told.

Decent!

The story was average, not one of my favorites from this author. Needs more emotion, the story was just bland.
