About this listen

The author of Fight Club takes America beyond our darkest dreams in this timely satire.

People pass the word only to those they trust most: Adjustment Day is coming. They've been reading a mysterious blue-black book and memorizing its directives. They are ready for the reckoning.

In this ingeniously comic work, the author's first novel in four years, Chuck Palahniuk does what he does best: skewer the absurdities in our society. Smug, geriatric politicians hatch a nasty fate for the burgeoning population of young males; working-class men dream of burying the elites; and professors propound theories that offer students only the bleakest future. When it arrives, Adjustment Day inaugurates the new, disunited states. In this mind-blowing novel, Palahniuk - an equal-opportunity offender - fearlessly makes real the logical conclusion of every separatist fantasy, alternative fact, and conspiracy theory lurking in the American psyche.

Overall a fine book and a good listen. I am a fan of Palahniuk's work; favorites being lullaby, invisible monsters, survivor, and rant. This book just didn't grab my attention as well as those but I still enjoyed the concepts and story. It's worth a listen as a fan but if you've never read Palahniuk's work before start on something else.

fun concepts on a windey path

struggled to finish, I really don't know what story was trying to happen...wish I would've listened as soon as I got it so I could've returned it after a few hours.
The narrator didn't help much either..

I enjoy Palahniuk, but ..

If you're a reasonable person in these times of ideological strife, you'll love this book.

Chuck's best

Maybe it does go a little off the rails toward the very end, but I laughed all the way through it, and on more than a few occasions was left pretty much speechless by both writer & narrator, who reads the whole text with such conviction you almost start to forget how crazy it all is. Highly recommended.

I wanted to like this book, and there were parts that I did, but it didn't seem to go anywhere fast. Some very thought-provoking ideas, but little to no story arc. I didn't realize it was supposed to be funny until midway through the book when it started getting so ludicrous you had to laugh.

Perhaps it's the mark of good satire when it depresses you at the same time it's making you laugh.

some thought- provoking ideas, very little plot

Chuck never let's me down. This book is fast-paced from the first page to the very last word.

Amazing as always

adjustment day, kind the first go around I wasn't sure which way was up and which down was way. second time I kind of got a feel for what was happening but I still a bit confused. the third time I couldn't get enough. I am really looking forward to the 4th time through. I don't want to miss anything. and that's how good it is. sucks you in to this world that is so unreal it's real.

the book was really just a good mindf*ck .

A little hard to follow. Jumps around a bit. You are left with filling in gaps for yourself.

Probably better as a movie
