Publisher's summary
Dyslexia affects one in 10 adults, yet most of the information available focuses on children and on what people can’t do (the deficit model). My work with thousands of adults with dyslexia and neuro-differences has shown me the key to success is having practical strategies for any weaknesses and an in-depth understanding of how to use your unique strengths.
This inspiring book will: 1) enable you to understand your strengths and what to do about your weaknesses, 2) give you different ways of viewing intelligence and help you realise your unique abilities, 3) give you an understanding of how the brain works and how to get the most out of your cognitive profile, 4) outline real-life case studies for a deeper understanding of how dyslexia affects people and what strategies they use to reach their full potential, 5) explain how personality differences affect how you think, lear,n and work, 6) encourage you to take action, develop your confidence, and achieve great things. I have personally narrated this book to give you a firsthand account of my experiences and insights. I hope you enjoy it.

Story
Drs. Brock and Fernette Eide use their impressive backgrounds in neurology and education to debunk the standard deficit-based approach to dyslexia. People typically define "dyslexia" as a reading and spelling disorder. But through published research studies, clinical observations, and interviews with dyslexic individuals, the Eides prove that these challenges are not dyslexia's main features but are instead trade-offs resulting from a different pattern of brain organization and information processing that has powerful advantages.

More than thirty million people in the United States are dyslexic—a brain-based genetic trait, often labeled as a “learning disability” or “learning difference,” that makes interpreting text and reading difficult. Dyslexia is a way for the brain to channel words, symbols, and letters into discernible thoughts. It's not just a disorder or handicap, something that teachers will be disappointed at and parents will be worried about. Over the years, all the dyslexic people I have met in my life have a knack for something other than reading and writing.

What causes dyslexia should be no mystery, but it is. Many have been left in the dark, and it’s time to change all that. In this audiobook, we’ll go over some of the most common denominators of dyslexic tendencies and the way to treat it. Also, I’ll touch on how to build someone’s vocabulary (because it’s not just about reading, but also about remembering words), on the role of the school systems, targeting a dyslexic student’s strengths, and the best ways to empathize with them.

From ADHD and dyslexia to autism, the number of diagnosis categories listed by the American Psychiatric Association has tripled in the last fifty years. With so many affected, it is time to revisit our perceptions of people with disabilities. Psychologist and educator Thomas Armstrong illuminates a new understanding of neuropsychological disorders. He argues that if they are a part of the natural diversity of the human brain, they cannot simply be defined as illnesses. Armstrong explores the evolutionary advantages, special skills, and other positive dimensions of these conditions.

The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

Jk. But really great read! Very much needed this. I was not diagnosed until I was 25, and had grown up thinking “i am smart, just not in certain ways” literally thinking i had reached the cap of my intelligence, and that those moments I were drawing blanks was my very finite potential. This is a reminder that we just need to come at the drawing board a little different, and recognize our strengths.

Wonderful Resource
This book is not just another academic or clinical treatment of dyslexia. It is more like a suggestion or guide book for real people. Ms. Isaacs gives real life examples of what people with dyslexia experience, and then practical advice and strategies to identify and emphasize strengths to compensate for weaker areas or skills. She doesn't treat dyslexia like some kind of handicap or deficiency. She shows how existing skills can be used and developed to improve performance. She also gives some basic but very helpful suggestions for dealing with day-to-day performance issues that are common among people with dyslexia. This is a very genuine book in the author's own voice. It is clear that she understands and wants to help. It is a wonderful resource.

Demystifying dyslexia
This book opened my eyes to what dyslexia and neurodivergence really are. It’s a short book that goes right to the point and is very accessible with relatable examples along the way. Even if you’re just looking for practical tools to help navigate a busy complex life this is worth the time to read and absorb.

Doesn’t really add much
Although relatively short book, there is lot of redundancy in every chapter.
I needed to have more explanation and understanding of Dyslexia and this was remotely covered. And the audio sounded muffled and I had to really rise the volume and to slow down the speed a lot.
