About this listen

When Maggie Bennett agreed to take a break from her own research to be the test subject in an experiment, all she wanted to do was help her best friend Sierra secure grant funding for the new medical imaging machine she was developing. But when Sierra's ex-boyfriend Garrett causes an explosion in the lab next door, Maggie finds herself gifted with Superpowers and in the custody of the High Guard, Sun City's most prominent Superhero Team.

At first, it isn't bad. The High Guard is helping her learn to use her powers while also working to keep her and Sierra from getting blamed for the explosion. And there's Varsha, the cute speedster that keeps showing up at her room with homemade ice cream and staying for lesbian movie marathons. But when Maggie discovers that Garrett is alive, and part of a plot to steal dangerous alien technology with ties to Maggie's past, she finds herself pushed into the role of a reluctant Superhero.

Caught in a race against time, Maggie must master her new abilities, and use her skills as a scientist to figure out why Garrett and his accomplices want the technology—and who they intend to sell it to.

Very good book

I have enjoyed the series as a whole and how it all connects. The voice acting is amazing, and I do enjoy all the different voices and a few accents! The author did make some improvements in adding more variety when using the phase “she said”… I was a little disappointed that there wasn’t much spice, but the story didn’t need it to be interesting. I appreciated the interpersonal dilemmas/obstacles as they were very relatable. I did find the over-powered nature of alot of the “good guy” meta humans to be boring and wished there was more perceived danger and suspense. Overall this book had me on the edge of my seat more than the first 2, bravo!

Amazing

Another winner from Molly, I'm absolutely in love with this world she has built! I love seeing characters from the other books appear in here too.

Great piece to the series but not as full

While I do think it was very well written and very enjoyable, unlike the first two books in the series, it felt a little flat. I enjoyed all the science and nuances of the different characters and powers, but something kept it from being as fulfilling as the first two books. That being said I definitely would not skip it, still a very good part of trilogy!

Ready for the next one

I am really enjoying this “series”. So often i miss characters when i move on from a book, so i love being able to revisit them. I have to say though, I’m team Sierra!

LGBTQ+ science fiction

This is the 3rd installment of the Hearts of Heroes series I've listened to. Excited for book 4 on audio. Great storyline and well developed characters. I like how the series build upon each other and connect/bring in characters from the former. Good narration but was difficult to differentiate the hero characters as they all melded by sounding the same. Overall, great listen. Molly Bragg, thank you. Thank you for creating books that LGBTQ+ individuals can relate to. You are so talented and I am looking forward to reading/listening to your other books.

Absolutely amazing

I’ve listened and read so many sapphic novels. But this one has given me so many feels; I could’ve never guessed what would ever happened next and that’s my favorite part! One of my best reads/listens I’ve ever had!!

Ends a Little Quickly

As with the previous two, Aether is a very fun listen. I really like the author's inclusion of accurate science anecdotes, and the characters are believable.

That was a fun amount of math and superhero science

Wow I've really loved this whole series so far. Aether especially though. I came home after listening to the last few chapters raving about the complex math and science on display.

Good story, great characters. World is tied together in an intricate plot. Great. just great

Smart, funny, intelligent

Molly J’s characters are highly intelligent and flawed and so lovable as they trek through the story teaching the feels of being special and damaged at hero levels.
