About this listen

Discover the roots of modern-day herbal remedies, plant medicine, holistic rituals, natural recipes, and more that were created by African American herbal healers throughout history.

This first-of-its-kind herbal guide takes you through the origins of herbal practices rooted in African American tradition—from Ancient Egypt and the African tropics to the Caribbean and the United States. Inside you'll find the stories of herbal healers like Emma Dupree and Henrietta Jeffries, who made modern American herbalism what it is today.

After rediscovering the forgotten legacies of these healers, African American Herbalism dives into the important contributions they made to the world of herbalism, including:

- Rituals for sacred bathing and skin care

- Herbal tinctures, potions, and medicine

- Recipes for healing meals and soul food

You'll also find a comprehensive herbal guide to the most commonly used herbs—such as aloe, lavender, sage, sassafras, and more. African American Herbalism is the perfect guide for anyone wanting to explore the medicinal and healing properties of herbs.

Inspired

This book gave lots of helpful information. The end left me highly inspired. I’m hopeful that I will contact the mentors introduced at the end of the book.

As an audio book, it was very enjoyable and interesting.

I very much enjoyed the audio book. I will listen to it again. It was very informative and I will go to her website and seek more information. I loved her personal stories, it made me remember my grandmother and all her wisdom.

Thank you, it has inspired me to also go deep into my Caribbean roots and seek more!

Life-changing

This is the first herbalism book I was ever able to finish. Not only is the narrator’s performance engaging and light; the subject matter is accessible and relevant.

Wealth of information

I enjoyed the loads of information given. The most irritating part was the exaggerated southern accent. If that’s not the narrator’s natural accent, don’t try it. It was off putting. If it wasn’t for the desire to hear the info I would fast forward pass that part.

Misleading Witchcraft

I purchased this book thinking it was going to be a guide to multiple recipes for ailments and guide through the plant world. instead i get a black women trying to influence our ppl to use Divination and spells and barely mentions recipes for actual problems such as cuts, bruises, etc. This book focused on “magic” uses of plants for baths to try and attain wealthy and love. The author failed to realize that the first example she gave of Emma Dupree ,a woman who lived to be almost 100 years old, gave all her credit of success to The LORD our God. The author is teaching our ppl the same practices that the Natives, Hispanics, and Blacks were doing that lead us into the slavery and captivities we were and are currently facing now.
The MOST HIGH GOD the LORD our Father gave us plants to heal and for meat not to use for witchcraft. The ONLY WAY to break our generational curses and heal our ppl is to turn back to the Father and Keep his Laws, Statues and Commandments while keeping the faith and guidance of his holy begotten son who is yes a a so-called BLACK MAN!
