About this listen

Is there a way to walk faithfully through doubt and come out the other side with a deeper love for Jesus, the church, and its tradition? Can we question our faith without losing it?

Award-winning author, pastor, and professor A. J. Swoboda has witnessed many young people wrestle with their core Christian beliefs. Too often, what begins as a set of critical and important questions turns to resentment and faith abandonment. Unfortunately, the church has largely ignored its task of serving people along their journey of questioning. The local church must walk alongside those who are deconstructing their faith and show them how to reconstruct it.

Drawing on his own experience of deconstruction, Swoboda offers tools to help emerging adults navigate their faith in a hostile landscape. Doubt is a part of our natural spiritual journey, says Swoboda, and deconstruction is a legitimate space to encounter the living God.

After Doubt offers a hopeful, practical vision of spiritual formation for those in the process of faith deconstruction and those who serve them. Foreword by pastor and author John Mark Comer.

An easy yet difficult listen

It was interesting to hear things I’ve felt before being articulated so simply. I would encourage anyone & everyone to listen or read this book even if you don’t think you’ve ever doubted before or feel secure in your faith or beliefs. Take note of the things you disagree with or that rub you the wrong way. Why did it? Is it true? Will it matter in the end? These are all things we need to find out for ourselves. This was a great starting point for me to learn about deconstruction.

Amazing book

So so helpful as a catalyst to understand my own deconstruction-reconstructing story with extremely helpful insights. Thank you AJ!

Empowering and thoughtful on our walk towards the living God.

The book was educational and encouraging and realist which is needed in a age of distraction like today. I will listen to the entire book again and I feel very blessed by the book. Thank you AJ.

Uncomfortable but necessary

Being a Christian for over 45 years has brought a lot of seasons Where I have had discovery in my life, but at the same time a lot of doubt. Is it possible to question your Faith without losing it?
That is the goal…
I found this book to be at times empathetic with those of us who have experienced the construction… And also very confront a tiff

Great book, average performance

The content of this book is important for any follower of Jesus in our era. It’s also well written and compelling. The performance seems to miss the tone of the writing by a wide margin.

InterestinListen

I grew up in a conservative church and community and began experiencing deconstruction even in high school. I moved to more and more progressive cities (Ann Arbor, MI and NYC) and deconstruction followed and continued. Now I am back in a progressive city but feel the desire to reconstruct. This book offers some interesting and though provoking ideas that were very helpful especially considering what feels like an impossible political landscape to navigate. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who has experienced deconstruction or simply feels conflicted about their faith in Christianity. Cheers!
