About this listen

Even though the cancer should be far behind him, Jeffrey still worries that it will return. He’s got normal teen stuff to deal with, too - friends, parents, girls, school. Normally, he’d ask his older brother, Steven, for advice. But Steven, always the trusty, responsible one, is finally rebelling and has taken off to Africa to join a drumming circle and “find himself”. Jeffrey feels abandoned. Meanwhile, his best friend, Tad, is hatching some kind of secretive, crazy plan involving eighth-grade graduation. And Lindsey Abraham, a way hot girl who is new to the school, thinks Jeffrey’s cute... which totally freaks him out. There’s a lot about life that cancer has prepared Jeffrey for, but there’s a lot that’s brand-new. Now it’s time for him to learn not only how to fight for himself but to stick up for the people he loves.

Surprising and delightful at every turn, After Ever After is a real, tender, hopeful, and funny story about what happens when you stop surviving and start living again.

This story was amazing. It was even better than the first!! I think Jordan Sonnenblick should make more good books!

AMAZING

I’ve read this book in print several times, and this was my first listen. I think Nick Podehl’s performance is one of the best I’ve heard. He also narrated Drums, Girls & Dangerous Pie, the first book by Jordan Sonnenblick that left me completely wrung out. Not that that’s a bad thing! It’s worth getting both books on Audible and in print. Excellent!!!

Deeply touching and beautiful!

Really enjoyed the characters and seeing what Jeff was like in his 8th grade year since we saw Steven’s 8th grade year the previous book. Oddly, enough Steven was the main reason why I didn’t enjoy this book as much as the first book. I was expecting this big blow up between Jeff and Steven where Jeff expresses how hurt he was by his older brother’s words and action of cutting off contact with him. There was a mention of a talk but that’s it. There was a resolution but it lacked any depth or emotional pull. I kind of wish Steven stayed away as he didn’t add anything to the story when he showed up as much as he did away. Things could have been resolved over email or a phone call.

I did not really like how Jeff said that he couldn't stop staring at Lindsey's "hot legs" 😖

NAUR😂✨

A great second book with some further closer on Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie told from a different perspective.

Great story

After Ever After pulls the strings of the heart while continuing to be witty and charming. Great book for teens and adults coping with the loss of a loved one with the BIG C.

Great sequel!

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This book is short and when I feel I have to return a book I never listents to the entire book. The book was found in my second favorite category: Teens. Fiction is my absolute favorite category. As an adult I feel the "teens" category often deals with social dilemma's in a more honest way. Sometimes, like in this book the teen stamp is too heavy.

What do you think your next listen will be?

"Societies child" by Janis Ian

What about Nick Podehl’s performance did you like?

I must confess: I love the way he makes books come to life, how he is able to sound bored if the characters demands it.

Could you see After Ever After being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Willow Smith, Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber

Great book about disability for pre-teens
