Publisher's summary

Falling in love is the easy part.

Arkansas. Solitude and nature. Time to breathe and rediscover herself.

That's what Luce thinks she's getting when she returns home after her divorce. Instead, she meets Connor and falls, once again, in love.

Connor blames his lying and cheating father for his mother's irresponsible behavior, leaving the burden of maintaining the family business squarely on Connor's shoulders. Luce is the unexpected variable that throws off his entire equation, the random X that sends his life into a delicious tilt-a-whirl. She's everything he ever wanted.

Minus her divorce.

When Connor's mom falls ill and makes a deathbed request, he knows he'll do his best to oblige her. Even if it means pretending to marry the woman he loves.

For listeners of Nicholas Sparks, Victorine Lieske, and Karen Kingsbury comes a sweet southern romance that explores the strengths of love and humanity in the setting of small-town America.

Learning to trust

Luce returns to Eureka after her failed marriage. She is trying to start over when she runs into Conner on the street. She reconnects with him after she tutored him in high school. She is attracted to him but he has a girlfriend.
Conner can’t stop thinking of Luce after he sees her again yet he has a girlfriend. But his girlfriend seems to be distancing herself lately. After he finds out why he breaks it off with her. After a time he starts to date Luce. There is much to this story. It has love, laughter, tears, heartache, and pain. It has behind closed doors sex in it but nothing more than that are discussed. This is the second book in this series that I have read and it is fun to see characters from the other book mentioned here.

Heartwarming story

This is such a sweet, tender, and heart-warming story. Luce moves back to Eureka to start over after her divorce and runs into Conner, who she had tutored back when they were in high school. Luce is attracted to him, but he is already in a relationship with someone. Conner had a crush on Luce back in high school and after running in to her again, he can't stop thinking about her. Eventually, his current relationship ends and he and Luce begin to date and start a new relationship, but then their relationship is tested. This story has is a lot of heartache and tears, but also lots of laughter and love. It's a story about trust and second chances, and learning to live again.

It is an amazing and emotional read!

Bring the tissues

A real tear jerker in places. The characters in this book have a lot of struggles to get through before the end, but there is an hea. Very well written, good characters, and an excellent narrator. I received a free review copy of the audio version of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Loved the book

This book was very well written and I loved listening to it. Luce and Connor made me really feel for them which in turn made me want to listen to the whole book in one sitting. You could feel the love that they have for one another in the words and the emotion of the narrator used in the audiobook.

A Matter of Trust

It is funny how we protect ourselves by building up walls and barriers, frequently against those who could help us with the initial issue. And then those walls become so rigid that we can't get out and others can't get in. If one is invested in the concept of the sanctity of marriage, it becomes more of a stretch to suspend disbelief enough to "buy into" a fake marriage, despite the popularity of the trope. Nonetheless I found myself invested in the narration, warmly and expressively read by Kristin Price, and enjoyed the story.

3.75★s

Well, I thought I had trouble with liars and trust. 😱 These 2 take it to a whole new level and I actually have PTSD from acts perpetrated upon me. And even I wouldn't act so stupidly! Get mad or upset but you don't throw an entire relationship away! And seriously? When would have been a good time within a 6 week "dating" period? 🤔 They both acted very immaturely for being in their late 20's. Don't misunderstand, I have no issue with dating & marrying in such a short time! It was 6 months total for us 24 years ago. And I tell you what, I STILL occasionally learn something from his past that he either forgot to tell or didn't even think about it. And ya know there have been some I'm sleeping on the couch until I can work it out doozies… that doesn't mean I immediately went straight to divorce. 😱 🤦

I did like the premise of the story-line. The whole immaturely handled issues mostly got in the way of a 5★ review.

I think there was plenty of time in the story to develop their characters so that we could make a better connection with them. So, I only feel I know them on a shallow basis. 🤔

The World building and art descriptions were wonderful. The ending came to a nice conclusion. The narrator was great for the story. 🙂

My star ratings include these 5 elements:

.5★ story line
.5★ engaging characters
1★ use of world building/descriptions
.75★ the ending
1★ narration or editing
