Publisher's summary

Under the bright arena lights of a rodeo show, young Avelina Belo falls for a handsome cowboy with a larger-than-life personality. After a whirlwind courtship, she happily moves away from her family in northern California and settles into married life with her cowboy on a seven-thousand-acre cattle ranch in Montana. One freak accident later, Avelina's hopes for the future come to an end.

Nate Myers graduated from UCLA medical school at the top of his class, ready to follow in the footsteps of his father, a superstar cardiothoracic surgeon. Six years later, Nate's career is being ruined by a malpractice suit. Questioning himself for the first time, he retreats to a Montana cattle ranch to visit his uncle and gain perspective. There he meets a beautiful young woman named Avelina who teaches him more than he ever knew about matters of the heart. Contains mature themes.

Perfect.

Well written and heart wrenching. Renee Carlino is one one my favorites. Her stories are thorough and real. Loved this hero and heroine.

Touching Tale of Self Discovery & Growth

Any additional comments?

After the Rain is a touching tale of self discovery and learning to move forward in the wake of heartache.

Avelina and Nate were mostly likeable and my heart hurt for all that each endured. I enjoyed their banter and they shared a palpable chemistry. The story had some lulls but my heart was invested in knowing the outcome. The dual POV provided a nice change when things seemed to drag a bit.

While I liked the story and the characters, the melancholy tone throughout the book dampened my overall enjoyment. I want to experience the emotions of the characters. I just need it to be a somewhat balanced experience of the emotional spectrum and this did not work for me personally. Though it's not my favorite from Renee, it does not change my immense adoration for this author and her work.

After the Rain

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes, this was a story I was interested in reading when I first read the summary.

Any additional comments?

I thought this was an OK story. I liked Kris's performance 100%. I however didn't always enjoy Abby's. He male voices were a bit much for me if I'm being honest.

Good story, but….

I wish I would’ve read this instead of listening. It was a bit slow for me. The story was great. Certainly got me in all my feelings.

Subpar

This novel started out okay but the female narrator’s voice quickly grated on my nerves as she draws out her final consonant sounds almost adding an extra syllable. Also, at one point in the story, the male narrator said the WRONG NAME for the heroine of the story (Olivia vs Ava). Finally, in Nate’s letters to Ava at the end of the novel, the repeated “but then again everything reminds me of you” was irritating. I have never written a bad book review, but I was thoroughly disappointed and dissatisfied with After the Rain.

Who wrote this?

I loved "Sweet Thing" so I am wondering who wrote this book. It is so corny that I am having trouble connecting this author with the one who wrote "Sweet Thing". Maybe it actually gets better toward the end but I am about half way through and I just can't finish it. Uncomfortable cringing.
