Publisher's summary

Every month, a letter. That's what Lauren decides to leave her husband when she finds out she's dying. Each month, she gives Josh a letter containing a task to help him face this first year without her, leading him on a heartrending, beautiful, often humorous journey to find happiness again in this new novel from the New York Times best-selling author Kristan Higgins.

Joshua and Lauren are the perfect couple. Newly married, they're wildly in love, each on a successful and rewarding career path. Then Lauren is diagnosed with a terminal illness.

As Lauren's disease progresses, Joshua struggles to make the most of the time he has left with his wife and to come to terms with his future - a future without the only woman he's ever loved. He's so consumed with finding a way to avoid the inevitable ending that he never imagines his life after Lauren.

But Lauren has a plan to keep her husband moving forward. A plan hidden in the letters she leaves him. In those letters, one for every month in the year after her death, Lauren leads Joshua on a journey through pain, anger, and denial. It's a journey that will take Joshua from his attempt at a dinner party for family and friends to getting rid of their bed...from a visit with a psychic medium to a kiss with a woman who isn't Lauren. As his grief makes room for laughter and new relationships, Joshua learns Lauren's most valuable lesson: The path to happiness doesn't follow a straight line.

Sometimes heartbreaking, often funny, and always uplifting, this novel from New York Times best-selling author Kristan Higgins illuminates how life's greatest joys are often hiding in plain sight.

Grab the kleenex

This book came out just after I lost my best friend to a similar lung disease, and I cried my eyes out listening to it and thinking of my dear friend, and imagining what she was thinking inside. The narrator did a great job pulling me in and telling this story. The story felt real and honest, and I felt every word deep inside. A great book to help with the grief of losing someone you love. I am glad I used my last credit for this book. I will have to look for more Kristan Higgins books.

Poignant, heartbreaking, & surprisingly uplifting

Loved this book. Beautifully written and a deeply moving account of what it means to love, lose, grieve, and heal. Wonderful moments of humor and a poignant look at facing our mortality. Well done, Ms. Higgins! And kudos to the amazing narrators!!

Thank you, Kristan!

Kristan Higgins books have always been fun and entertaining, and this is no exception, but her writing seems to be growing in depth and maturity. I lost my husband five years ago, and I found the story of Lauren's death and Josh's journey to make it through the first year after the death of his beloved wife to be so evocative of some of my own experiences. Reading it was a healing experience.

Loved it

The narrators where so good they made me feel so many emotions. The story was so beautiful and shows the stages of grief and moving on when a loved one passes. I truly loved it and cried like a baby.

Good Listen

I picked this up because my friends wouldn’t stop talking about how amazing a sad it was, but I had a different perspective. It found it funny, charming, and a good how-to get over grief story. It was a nice listen but I don’t think I would’ve picked this up without my friends telling me how good it was.

cried and laughed

This isn't a typical Kristan Higgins story. At times emotionally tough to listen to, but real. I've already recommended it to several friends.

Hmmm…

I’m unsure of how I feel about this book. It was a bit slow and I skipped through some of the to dad dialogue. IMO there was to much talking to dad. The dialogue could have been included without it being directed to the dad. Enjoyed all of the supporting characters, especially Radley. There are a few laugh out loud moments. I won’t spoil it but one is related to karate. Loved the Lauren and Joshua love story. It was a story with sadness but not overly emotional. Of course Joshua was my favorite character and I’m glad that he had a happily ever after with the right person. Sometimes the female narrator’s voice was a bit annoying but not enough to ruin the listen. The male narrator was perfect. Highly recommend.

That was ps I love you vibes

I really loved the story but the narration by Dion was annoying for me to listen to and somewhat distracting.

I cried hard in many parts and laughed in between. Such a great love story!
