About this listen

Afterlife...just some gothic nightclub where gossip is fuelled by the presence of a rich and unearthly, handsome family or afterlife...the strange place where time seems to stand still and guests feel the presence of something more powerful held within the confines of the VIP.

Keira is new to this small, cold town and is running from a past that seems to feast on her darkest memories. She finds living with her sister away from English soil to be just the ticket to the new life she is trying desperately to find. So when the offer of a job at the infamous gothic nightclub Afterlife comes along she thinks that lady luck has finally found her. That is until its seductively dark and forbidding owner Dominic Draven sets eyes on her.

All at once she is captivated and plunged into a world she never knew existed, but the deeper her obsession with Draven becomes, the harder it is to decide...should she stay and continue to work within the shadows of the supernatural or should she run from a madness she thinks may consume her?

Warning: This audiobook not only has sexual content but is amazingly addictive, with its dark mystery, haunting horror, seductive twists and one sexy dark lord that has the listener drooling every time the name Draven is heard! This audiobook has been written by an UK author with a mad sense of humour. Which means the following story contains a mixture of Northern English slang, dialect, regional colloquialisms and other quirky spellings that have been intentionally included to make the story and dialogue more realistic for modern day characters.

great job Rebecca

I love this series and own all the books. I decided to purchase the audio books to give me something to listen to while cleaning or in the car. I have to say the first book is at this time the only book given a discount to customers who have already purchased the books. Book two is not discounted. I find this disheartening. I had hoped to purchase all the audio books. At almost $30.00 each I don't foresee that happening. With that said, the audio books are well done. I wondered how the characters would be performed. I will say I think Rebecca did a good job. I have already listened to the book twice.

WOW... I liked it but it was way to long.

Afterlife could have been better if they cut out about 10 hrs. With less time describing the surroundings and the thoughts in Keira's head. It would have moved along much faster. I'm hesitating on buying the 2nd book because its even longer. I don't think I can do it.

At chapter 6 of book 1

So I am at chapter 6 and I am trying so hard to get past this narrator!!!. Her voice does NOT fit this character AT ALL. She is too soft, sweet spoken, like a little child English princess. Like Alice from Alice in wonderland type voice. WAY too child like for this story. She doesn't have that edgy, troubled past, left sorta jaded side in her voice or inflections. It's AWFUL. Also, She can not pull off a man's voice AT all, esp since this guy is sultry, raspy, and dark. I honestly think if there was a different narrator, this book would be a 5 star for me. She(narrator) really is that bad for this kind of book. And that sets the tone unfortunately.

Now if you can try and get past that and mentally picture a different kind of face to the voice. Which yes is hard. This is a good book/story.

Update: chapter 29 getting annoyed that after EVERY sentence the narrator kinda stops you hear her jaw click and slobbering. Like she keeps swallowing spittle.
Update: finished and I will try the next book and pray it's better. but this narrator is God awful. Just way too young and juvenile to do this character. Funny that I mentioned alice in wonderland and they mention her as that a few times toward the end. And the male main character pet name for her being "little one" its gross cause of how young she sounds. The more mature scenes, I had to skip cause it was a little nauseating.

Also need to mention this is a very long book and half of it was worthless, pointless and too much fluff.

Actor’s voice ruins most characters

The voice artist’s voice for the primary character is perfectly nice and likable, albeit a bit shrill, but every single other voice is painful, from butchered American accents to horrendous men’s voices, it’s just AWFUL. The story is good, totally engaging, but this voice thing is a pretty huge problem that detracts from the story itself. I mean...it’s really bad.

better then the reviews

here's the thing about this book. it's very very long. yes there are plenty of parts that could be eliminated but overall I enjoyed the breathing room moments. they were a break in pace. I love her accents. I don't know what everyone's problem is with her American ones. I think they are pretty good. more like a northern Midwest American accent. oh and I did feel like her boy was bad at first, but the character is so regale I'm not sure anyone else could pull it off. it's fantastic. overall the author did a great job. she really explains alot. I could only imagine how long this actually took to write. I hope she continues to write lengthy sagas like this. and I'm so happy the same narrator was chosen for all stories great job

Love her books

I am addicted to this series. The detail. The Characters. The trauma. The romance. You get lost in them in the best way to get lost. So thankful she decided to write them.

YIKES!

I suggest that you read these books. Yes, they are insanely long, but let's get to the real issue with these books.....THE NARRATION SUCKS! The chick ruined it, I can't even get through a 3rd of the first book without quitting and moving on to a different series altogether. I truly hope she didn't quit her day job to pursue a career in narration. It is that awful(nails on a chalkboard/insulting Americans all at once).
