About this listen

Seanan McGuire's New York Times best-selling and Hugo Award-nominated urban fantasy InCryptid series continues with the 13th book following the Price family, cryptozoologists who study and protect the creatures living in secret all around us.

Mary Dunlavy didn't intend to become a professional babysitter. Of course, she didn't intend to die, either, or to become a crossroads ghost. As a babysitting ghost, she's been caring for the Price family for four generations, and she's planning to keep doing the job for the better part of forever.

With her first charge finally back from her decades-long cross-dimensional field trip, with a long-lost husband and adopted daughter in tow, it's time for Mary to oversee the world's most chaotic family reunion. And that's before the Covenant of St. George launches a full-scale strike against the cryptids of Manhattan, followed quickly by an attack on the Campbell Family Carnival.

It's going to take every advantage and every ally they have for the Prices to survive what's coming—and for Mary, to avoid finding out the answer to a question she's never wanted to know: What happens to a babysitting ghost if she loses the people she's promised to protect?

Better get the tissues

This is heart wrenching. Told from the ghostly baby sitter's POV. The Covenant brings war to the Price family and not everyone makes it through.

The ending is clearly leading to a book about the aftermath. I hope it's not years away.

It all comes back

The Prices have been running about doing mad things and tweaking the nose of the covenant. The covenant is not going to take it anymore, but all the fighters are family so the losses hit hard.

Seems overall Seanan McGuire writing is getting darker and slightly less enjoyable

This story is darker, less humor and irony . Thanks for the opportunity to express my self.

Amazing as always!

Seanan McGuire as always keeps you on your metaphorical feet with her thrilling twists and plot turns. That mixed with a lot of weighty sorrow, loss of one pretty significant character, and very real family drama, sorrow, and interpersonal dynamics. There is even more great stuff so pick up a copy!

Ohemgee! What a fantastic addition to this generational saga...

This wasn't the book that I expected Seanan Mcguire to write as this looks back at Mary Dunlavy following her life from the beginning of it's end. Learn how Mary started her death as a Crossroads Witch and managed to become the Healy/Price family babysitter. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a good place to start reading the story, you need to start from the beginning. In this story the Covenant of St George brings the war against the Price family to a whole new level attacking the refuge for Cryptids in Manhattan and then the Carnival, places both near and dear to the Price family's heart! And this war isn't without heavy consequences as the family is hit hard!😪 And well Mary is torn between love for the ones greving the most and her duty to the entire family, which includes both adopted ones and all the spouses too, as the designated babysitter! Torn between her duty to the Family and to that of the Gods themselves! Traipsing the fine line between duty and rules.
Go grab this book even better grab the entire series. And treat yourself to the audiobooks because Emily Bauer is a great narrator!

Dirty Pool, Seanan

I didn't need to cry that much, Gods and Goddesses damnit. Seriously, though, the book is fantastic. Narration performance was equally amazing.

The BEST babysitter

Mary is the most badass babysitter ever. I had not anticipated this book being about Mary and I absolutely loved it. This is their series that started me on Seanan McGuire’s work and it has been a real joy to follow. I only wish I could have a babysitter like Mary. The narration is excellent.

This is not a stand alone or a good place to start. I strongly encourage anyone looking at this to start from the beginning of the series. It’s a wild trip and I’ve loved every step.

All the feels

There are few things I look forward to more than a new book in a favorite series, and this did not disappoint. I was left in tears at points but it was worth it.
