Publisher's summary

History is written by the victors; but when you've been fighting your fellow patriots, your own brothers and sisters, does anyone really win?

A harrowing gut-punch of a novel, Afterwar tells the story of a dark future where America has been devastated by a second civil war. As the fighting draws to a close, the camps are liberated, the fascist regime crumbles and the work of rebuilding begins. But can a population that's spent years divided and hell-bent on victory at any cost ever be truly reunited?

Afterwar is best-selling author Lilith Saintcrow's answer to the dystopian genre: a timely and all-too-realistic glimpse of a future that we hope never comes to pass.

Good story, cld use a good copy editor

Story was good, certainly timely. Writing was good but could have been tightened up *a little* in terms of style.

A highly original and creative story of America’s future

I’d never read anything by Saintcrow, but Afterwar caught my eye because it starts at the end of the next big war. As an action lover, I wondered how she could make me care about that world and its people coming in at what is usually the end of the story.

I was genuinely and pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the experience. Saintcrow drops you right into the chaos, and the world and history take shape as you live it through the outstanding characters.

She somehow perfectly captured the mood and weariness of what it must be like near the end of a long, bloody and divisive war. Jaded, exhausted, yet still somehow able to make the tough calls and soldier on. There’s a grit and determination that I felt through every chapter, I felt the weight of it at every twist and turn.

I’ve read dozens of “the next America” books - This one offered a truly unique perspective and I will remember her America and my journey through it.

Well done, Ms. Saintcrow - I highly recommend Afterwar!!!

Full of statist tropes

Ought to be rewritten with more self reflection and awareness. Kind of tired of the tired old false stereotypes.
