About this listen

Alex Cross’s son Ali is an accomplished mystery-solver and number-one best-selling author. A crime at a concert near his school sparks his newest investigation, and it gets dangerous fast. Sometimes it’s good to have a father in the detective business.

Ali Cross just solved his first real case. Alex Cross knows it's only a matter of time before his son finds his way into more trouble. Neither of them expected Ali to get caught up in another case so quickly. Ali and his friends were just hanging out in Anacostia Park...then they became witnesses to a crime. Alex wants Ali to stay far away from the investigation. But Ali isn't going anywhere, not when his new friend Zoe is in trouble. It's up to Ali to figure out why she's lying to the police - and who she's protecting. This is Ali's toughest case yet. As long as he trusts his Cross instincts, he may just have a shot at solving it....

I really enjoyed this story. Ali’s series gets better and better and I’m looking forward to reading the next one. I love how they blended in the homeless, and fair treatment of Black kids by the cops. It was tastefully done, not over the top. Also, I love that Ali had his little first crush, that was so cute! I love the way Alex is supportive of him. Ali is a natural at being a detective and he’s the perfect choice to follow in his father’s foot steps. Plus he’s a little genius. I just wish they would mention his mother, Christine, more often, at least in Ali’s books. The last time we heard anything about her, Ali spent Christmas with her in “Merry Christmas, Alex Cross.” They treat her like a dead-beat mom and she’s totally not. She’s not dead like Marie, so she should continue to at least be mentioned or have some sort of role in his life.

I am read the first two of what I am hoping to be a much longer series by this author. James Peterson has been one of my favorites for a long while but I must admit that I had som concerns over a series whose main character is a teen age son of a police officer. I read the first book based on a friend’s recommendation, although I didn’t think it would hold my interest. I am happy to say that I was terribly wrong and couldn’t wait for more as I got involved in this, the second book of Ali Cross’s entry into the work of a policeman, comparing his efforts to what he knew of his detective father’s work.
This book is a quick read but with sufficient complexity to hold an adult reader’s attention throughout from cover to cover.
I do recommend this work and suggest that you begin with the first book for greatest rewards.
Thanks Mr Patterson for providing a delightful change of pace.

A well written book that held my attention from page one to the finish

reasonable ya book. reader varies his volume too much making it hard to hear. he actually whispers when it asks for it. needs to keep volume more consistent.
