About this listen

What do you do when your mind tells you to move on, but your heart tells you to stay?

Alicia Powell Torres is sick of her joyless career in a town full of painful memories. She wants to seize life again, and she won't get that by staying still. It's time for a big change, and Brooklyn seems like the right place for a fresh start. Gathering her courage, she begins the arduous process of selling her family home and leaving her past behind.

But before she can pack everything up, her childhood friend and neighbor Gabo returns to town with sexy smiles, his dinner invites, his collection of steamy romance books, and his big...goals. He also brings memories best left in the past. She struggles to keep him at a distance, but he lights her up like no one else ever could. The temptation he offers is impossible to resist, and if she doesn't get away soon, she’ll end up hurting him and herself in the process.

Gabriel Miller Garcia has always been cautious, but when he returns to his hometown, he bumps into the love of his life, the one that got away. Being around Alicia again has him tempted to take a chance, but a fateful day from their youth threatens his hopes for a bright future together. Losing her again isn't an option, so Gabriel will risk it all to keep Alicia from the bright lights of Brooklyn, but will his rekindling of her fire be too late, or will love light the way to a future together?

Good book

The female character was a bit much. The back and forth was a bit annoying but good good book.

Exhausted!

This was a sweet story but so exhausting. I love a good love story but this took everything out of me. Too much back and forth.

Okay but..

This is my first book from this author. The story itself was nice. The deliver was where I struggled. I found this book by searching for the narrator Winston James. This is the first time I’ve heard a book read by the female narrator. I struggled with her character voices, while the characters were Afro Latino all the voices gave me another vibe. Winston James did a wonderful job. Honestly can’t say that I would be interested in another book from this author.

it's ok

I started and stopped this story several times and decided to finish it. I only picked it because of Winston James bit the female narrator was a little annoying and the story I just couldn't get with so much uncertainty and back and forth with alicia.

Great debut by AH Cunningham

I enjoyed this story, Gabo is that dude. Ms. Cunningham has a strong storytelling style here, and I love that Afro-Latino culture was at the forefront of this book.

This was my first listen for Ms. Gavia, and I thought she did a solid job. Her performance was especially strong during the emotional moments of the book. Mr. James is a beast on the mic, his baritone the perfect choice for the sexy Gabo.

Can’t wait to hear book 2.

The female character and narrator

This is my first book from this author. I
must say, it will be a long time before I read another. The narrator was horrible and the back and forth from the character was a bit too much. I will never recommend this book. The only reason I gave it 3 stars is Winston James.

Interesting Story...

Overall, it was a good read. I will say, however, it felt like every time the story was going to take off, the story circled back to something that we'd already went through. For myself, the story was scared to be great! I'd still recommend this story and author because my feedback is subjective.

I've struggled to get thru this book not super sure why....but I do hate a wishy-washy person and the heroine is quite so

It was!!!

It was OK it could have been better. The
Woman narrator voice sounded like a robot. Winston James did great. Maybe the ladies voice through the whole thing off. I hope the next book is using someone else for the lady's voice
