About this listen

Instant Number-One New York Times Best Seller

"Robert Bathurst is just about perfect delivering the 16th Chief Inspector Armand Gamache novel.... Listen to all the Gamache audiobooks for maximum satisfaction." (AudioFile Magazine, Earphones Award winner)

In All the Devils Are Here, the 16th novel by number one best-selling author Louise Penny finds Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Sûreté du Quebec investigating a sinister plot in the City of Light.

On their first night in Paris, the Gamaches gather as a family for a bistro dinner with Armand’s godfather, the billionaire Stephen Horowitz. Walking home together after the meal, they watch in horror as Stephen is knocked down and critically injured in what Gamache knows is no accident, but a deliberate attempt on the elderly man’s life.

When a strange key is found in Stephen’s possession it sends Armand, his wife, Reine-Marie, and his former second-in-command at the Sûreté, Jean-Guy Beauvoir, from the top of the Tour d’Eiffel, to the bowels of the Paris Archives, from luxury hotels to odd, coded works of art.

It sends them deep into the secrets Armand’s godfather has kept for decades.

A gruesome discovery in Stephen’s Paris apartment makes it clear the secrets are more rancid, the danger far greater and more imminent, than they realized.

Soon the whole family is caught up in a web of lies and deceit. In order to find the truth, Gamache will have to decide whether he can trust his friends, his colleagues, his instincts, his own past. His own family.

For even the City of Light casts long shadows. And in that darkness devils hide.

"Bathurst superbly manipulates tone, volume, and pace to highlight this range of emotions. Paris is described beautifully, and Bathurst lingers over these descriptive passages that will speak to any traveler’s soul...." (Booklist, starred review)

Elegant, entertaining with unexpected twists and turns!

Just love this family of characters! The poetic writing style, beautifully revealed personalities,mouth-watering descriptions of food all coalesce into a story that one has to keep listening to. The skilled performance of the voice actor is icing on the cake! I discovered Louise Perry’s series during COVID. Listening to them has kept me sane, entertained and rushing to listen to the next book! Sadly, I’ve come to the end of the series, to date. I will remain alert for the next installment. Thank you Louise Perry for your vivid imagination, insight into human nature and story-telling skills. Your writing is a gift to all!

Worth the wait!!

I "discovered" Louise Penny about 2 years ago and, since then have been sequentially reading her books. I was dismayed in March, after finishing "A Better Man" (#15), that the next book had yet to be released!!! Well, it was worth the wait!! The storyline captured me immediately and kept me waiting to see what would happen next. I do enjoy her usual "Three Pines" characters, but it was refreshing to have the focus on the Gamache family, fleshing out their characters. While any of these books could stand alone, they are much more enjoyable if you have background from prior releases. I found this to especially true here as the story referenced many incidents in previous novels. They gave the story depth, but would have been difficult to incorporate for someone's first "Gamache" read.

Enjoyable

Excellent beginning. Somewhat plausible story. Ending more like a movie—led to believe one thing, totally opposite happens.
Good read. Wonderful narration!

Best series ever!

This author (and series) never disappoint. Found one of these books (3rd in the series if I remember correctly) at a library sale several years ago. After reading it I went on the hunt for the first book and have read (and now listened to) every one and eagerly await the next and the next..... Always hoping there will be another after finishing the latest. The characters are so well written, you feel them and know them like they're real and they're your friends. You wish you lived close to them.
