About this listen

Instant Number-One New York Times Best Seller

"Robert Bathurst is just about perfect delivering the 16th Chief Inspector Armand Gamache novel.... Listen to all the Gamache audiobooks for maximum satisfaction." (AudioFile Magazine, Earphones Award winner)

In All the Devils Are Here, the 16th novel by number one best-selling author Louise Penny finds Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Sûreté du Quebec investigating a sinister plot in the City of Light.

On their first night in Paris, the Gamaches gather as a family for a bistro dinner with Armand’s godfather, the billionaire Stephen Horowitz. Walking home together after the meal, they watch in horror as Stephen is knocked down and critically injured in what Gamache knows is no accident, but a deliberate attempt on the elderly man’s life.

When a strange key is found in Stephen’s possession it sends Armand, his wife, Reine-Marie, and his former second-in-command at the Sûreté, Jean-Guy Beauvoir, from the top of the Tour d’Eiffel, to the bowels of the Paris Archives, from luxury hotels to odd, coded works of art.

It sends them deep into the secrets Armand’s godfather has kept for decades.

A gruesome discovery in Stephen’s Paris apartment makes it clear the secrets are more rancid, the danger far greater and more imminent, than they realized.

Soon the whole family is caught up in a web of lies and deceit. In order to find the truth, Gamache will have to decide whether he can trust his friends, his colleagues, his instincts, his own past. His own family.

For even the City of Light casts long shadows. And in that darkness devils hide.

"Bathurst superbly manipulates tone, volume, and pace to highlight this range of emotions. Paris is described beautifully, and Bathurst lingers over these descriptive passages that will speak to any traveler’s soul...." (Booklist, starred review)

A technology mystery in Paris!

I would not have believed that Louise Penny would write a mystery about misuse of rare earth magnets. I'm a huge long-term fan of Louise Penny and the Gamache series. Each of the 16 novels in the series has been wonderful, but ALL THE DEVILS ARE HERE is now my favorite. It is a treasure! Robert Bathurst took over narrating the series from Ralph Cosham after Cosham's 2014 death just as The Long Way Home was published. Bathurst is excellent but few narrators are as outstanding as Cosham.

I do love this series!

Outstanding (again) !

Louise Penny has completed another 5 star story. This time, it’s outside of Three Pines. It’s intelligent and intense with family involvement. I enjoyed how Rein Marie was given a larger role. I loved the ending!
Book 16 or is it 17? I’ve read them all. How does she do it?

Love this series but this was not her best

I don’t want to give away any spoilers- there is a great ride with twists and turns and some history and some art and a lot of interpersonal drama - all good things- but there were just too many stretches of the imagination... and science. A great effort but - the ending was too much.

An understated triumph, a genre perfected

Louise Penny’s Gamache world has already become larger than life; but in All the Devils, she has surpassed and consummated all other volumes in this lovely series by contributing what must be her tour de force. We are left with heartfelt empathy for the characters developed lovingly over several years and hundreds of pages, yet find new facets of their lives and personalities to engage. Beyond the hope and joy that the text conveys as water to our weary souls in this year of all years, the narrator...I falter for words, as he has completely become the characters and their message to us, the beloved readers. If you have not yet started this series, do yourself and your heart a favor and get busy enjoying these, from the first one (Still Life) through time this one. You will walk away a better human being.

You got DARK with this plot, Louise!

As usual it was intriguing, twisting and full of well developed characters- and glad we got back to 3 Pines and all our friends at last.
As ever, an unforgettable audible experience.
