About this listen

From award-winning author Susannah Sandlin comes the fourth book in the smart and steamy Penton Legacy series.

British vampire psychiatrist and former mercenary Cage Reynolds returns to Penton, Alabama, looking for a permanent home. The town has been ravaged by the ongoing vampire war and the shortage of untainted human blood, and now the vampires and humans that make up the Omega Force are trying to rebuild. Cage hopes to help the cause, put down roots in Penton, and resolve his relationship with Melissa Calvert. The last thing he expects is to find himself drawn to Robin Ashton, a trash-talking eagle shape-shifter and new Omega recruit.

Meanwhile, as a dangerous saboteur wreaks havoc in Penton, the ruthless Vampire Tribunal leader Matthias Ludlam has been freed on the eve of his scheduled execution. But by whom? And to what end? As war and chaos rage on, love isn’t something Cage is looking for, but will his attraction to Robin distract him from the danger living among them?

Victoria's Review

A great addition to the Penton vampires series, a wild ride as the Penton Vampires face their hardest struggle yet, and Cage Reynolds and Robin find their own love story. Masterfully brought to Audible life by Any Mcfadden.

Awesome book and narrator..

Any additional comments?

I love this series but since I've read 150+ books in-between the 3rd and 4th book it's nearly impossible to remember everyone's story: Melissa, Mark, Aiden, Krys, Mirren, Glory? Yeah, I vaguely remember their names but I have no idea what their stories were about. I loved this one, though. Loved Cage and Robin. Absolutely adored Nik. Alas, one bad guy dies and another has already taken his place and I'm not really sure I can do this anymore. I think I'll just stick to stand-alone books or trilogies that have all three books available. I recently read 4 books in a series and went to the authors web site to see if it mentioned when the next book would be out and saw that there will 13 in that particular series. Really? Do authors really think readers will wait around for years for them to write the next book in the series? Ummm...NO!!

As to the narrator: All I can say is WOW!!! Ms. McFadden has come a long way since Absolution and Omega. Her voices were just phenomenal. Melissa's southern drawl was perfect. Cage's British accent was so sexy and so funny at times. There were several times I laughed out loud and I'm sure if I had just been reading it that wouldn't have happened. It was the way Ms. McFadden read it that made it so funny. Nik's voice was just awesome, as was Robin's. The voices were all perfect and you knew exactly who was talking at any given time. Wonderful, wonderful job Ms. McFadden..

The Penton Legasy Continues

Allegiance is the fourth book in the Penton Legacy series and Susannah Sandlin continues to give us the close-knit, brave, and yeah - sexy, Penton characters we've come to love. Cage Reynolds takes center stage in this book and doesn't disappoint. Allegiance also has a tie in with Sandlin's Omega Force, bringing shifters into the Penton world.

Cage was one of my favorite characters in the third book, Omega, but I was always a little unsure of his relationship with newly turned vampire Melissa. Mel's human husband was still alive and I loved them together, though I enjoyed her dynamic with Cage as well. I just wasn't sure what I thought would work out better. Well, I was very satisfied with the way everything was handled in this book and I loved seeing how maturely Cage and Melissa dealt with their feelings. I was so happy to see Melissa and Mark beginning to work on their relationship; it just felt right.

Cage meets his match in Allegiance in the form of eagle shifter, Robin. Yes, an eagle shifter named Robin -- what can I say? Her parents were hippies. Robin and Cage were pretty hot together though I didn't quite get the same "mate" level from them as I did Aidan and Kris and Mirran and Glory; they were more around the Will and Randa level. I did enjoy the addition of the shifters to the story though and I am interested to see how the collaboration between Penton and the Omega Force will play out.

My favorite new character this time around was the human telepath, Nik. He's was cheeky and quick, but was also obviously devoted to those he holds dear. He was also very brave as one of the few purely human soldiers standing with the vampires and shifters. He begins to form a bond with Hannah in Allegiance and I am interested to see them begin to explore their powers together. I think he could be a source of strength for the little vampire since the loss of her foster family.

The only thing that I felt could have been tightened up a little in Allegiance was the pacing. A lot of "building" events happen in the beginning to middle of the book, but at some points it did drag a bit. As we got closer to the end, the book picked up a lot of speed but I felt like we missed out on some of the action. I could have done with a little less at the start and a little more at the end... especially at the very end. I get why Susannah used the time jump as she did, but I would have liked just a little more info about everything that had gone on during that time, the state of all the Penton residents (i.e. Kris), and a little more suffering for Matthais. Overall though, I felt like this was a strong offering in the series and am looking forward to more books leading to the rebuilding of Penton.

I love Amy McFadden's narration of the books it was outstanding.

Wow! This one was chocked full of surprises! Ready for the last one even though I’ll be sorry to see it end.

Not as good as first few books

I love this author's style and imagination. Loved the series even tho I started with book two and followed with book one, then three.

That said, this one was a bit of a disappointment. We had much of the same cast, altho there were curiously "convenient" absences by some of the core characters that played nicely in the story arc such as Hannah, the immortal young cherokee psychic. She gets sidelined in a flat way that tells me Ms Sandlin may be growing tired of the series. Some of the muddiness in the romance with various folks vying for the same mates also seemed forced. In fact I was quite bored by the whole thing.

But most disappointing--the lovely complicated scheming bad guy(s) that were so easy to hate in previous books were, in this book so predictable from very early on (chapter one or two?), that there was no suspense for me throughout the book. It's not a terrible book and if you are a fan of the series, you'll like this latest edition, but its definitely not like the first three in terms of suspense, romantic heat, plot and story arc. You'll like it. You just may not get the same thrill as earlier books.

There is a set up for Nick's ("Zorba") tale in the next book. I look forward to it.
Narration was fine and she kept on her toes with the Irish, Scottish, English, and deep south accents. Ms McFadden does a respectable job keeping them straight and moving at a good pace through the book.

Great story

loved the person reading on the 1st three books. This one drove me crazy. For some reason she decided to give Irish accents to Adian and Mirran , when there were none in the first three. It was noted in the previous books they only had a hint of an accent but mostly had dropped. Other than that tge story was great!

Another good installment

Didn't know if I was going to like this installment when I started listening, but didn't take long to hold my interest. I think much of that was due to the new characters of Robin and Nick, especially that 'Little Bird", as she really made the story perk up, by adding a good bit of humor. Had to go listen to Storm Front though, when I finished this book, because she was introduced in it. The narrator of this story did a much better job with Robin and Nick's voices(really didn't care for the Storm Front narration)
This installment opens up some new doors for the Penton Legacy and is a quick listen, but beware it only partially ends.

ANOTHER WINNER IN THE SERIES

Completely enjoyed the next audible in The Penton Legacy Series. The story continued on without any lapses. The female lead annoyed me at times, but overall good listen. This series makes me want to continue to find out the end result, who comes out winning and how it all takes place. Some interesting twists in this one also. Now just waiting for Book 5 to be available on audible Australia.

Surprising read

I was really eager to read the fourth installment Penton. What I discovered in the book is that they were inconsistencies in the storyline from books 1 2 & 3 which was disappointing, it seems the author has forgotten what happened to her character Melissa .the transitions in the book toward the end we're choppy like someone else finish them or the author lost focus most memorable moment she is really the author is really warped when it comes to what vampires and shifters will do .I'd should tell you exactly how but why spoil the story .the story was overall very good storyline was very good the narrator was outstanding she kept me on the edge of your seat I will still be looking for book 5 if the author is still around to write another.
