Publisher's summary

Maggie Silver has never minded her unusual life. Cracking safes for the world’s premier spy organization and traveling the world with her insanely cool parents definitely beat high school and the accompanying cliques, bad lunches, and frustratingly simple locker combinations. (If it’s three digits, why bother locking it at all?)

But when Maggie and her parents are sent to New York City for her first solo assignment, her world is transformed. Suddenly, she’s attending a private school with hundreds of "mean girl" wannabes, trying to avoid the temptation to hack the school’s elementary security system, and working to befriend the aggravatingly cute son of a potential national security threat...all while trying not to blow her cover.

From the hilarious and poignant author of Audrey, Wait! comes a fast-paced caper that proves that even the world’s greatest spies don’t have a mission plan for love.

AKA Adorable Fluff

What did you like best about Also Known As? What did you like least?

The characters are great, and definitely where Robin Benway shines as an author. Everyone’s got a whole lot of personality, especially Roux, who might have been my personal favorite. Jesse Oliver is great too. While I do like Maggie, I think I would like her slightly more if she had truly loved Roux more than she seems to do. Also, Maggie’s parents are loving and involved in her life, so three cheers for that.

On the other hand, I had some suspension of disbelief issues with the young girl being a spy thing, but I’m willing to set those aside for fun times.

What three words best describe Robin Benway’s performance?

I really appreciate the ease this question system gives to reviewing, but I don't know what to do with this prompt, tbh. Here are my thoughts on the narration: Robin Benway does a pretty good job. She’s not the best narrator ever by any means, but I still think it’s cool that she read her own book. Plus, her true affection for the characters really does shine through. She’s not brilliant at voices, but it was still clear who was speaking.

Was Also Known As worth the listening time?

It was worth the listening time for sure, but I think I might have liked it a bit more in print.

If you have read any of Ally Carter's books...

... you will absolutely love this book. Another young girls spy book, and she is spending her time in the field. Benway crafts a great plot and causes you to fall in love with all of these characters. You see a great forbidden love story and a wonderful friendship. Sadly in some spots it was difficult to follow dialogue between characters. Overall, great story.

Not to bad

It wasn't bad it's not for kids under 10-11 tho the story line gets a little off at points but overall I liked it

Fun YA Listen

The first chapter didn't impress me much but the second chapter was better and the story kept getting better from there so I'm glad I stuck with it. It's full of humor, light adventure and enough teen problems to be realistic for the characters without being annoying to me as an adult. I soon found myself looking for reasons to keep listening rather than doing something else. I wasn't paying attention so was surprised to find at the end that it was read by the author. While not my favorite narrator she did a good job with bringing life to the story and giving each character their own personality. Her one shortcoming was that there was no real difference in the sound of the voices, so you needed to pay attention in some places to keep up with who was talking at any given time. Overall a very entertaining listen.

These spies are a Force for Good!

As a retired public school educator, I've read countless popular teen adventure stories. This heroine has never been allowed to have true friendships nor attend school. This book addresses the value of honesty & trust vs. lying to protect their identities. The adventure was easy to enjoy with fast paced challenges that frequently brought a smile to my face. These spies help make the world safe with almost no references to violence. One of the girls even has self imposed penalties for bad language!
