About this listen

In this Audible Original prequel to Ally Carter's New York Times best-selling Gallagher Girls series, narrator Rebecca Soler brings her charm, enthusiasm, and impeccable accent work to the world of teen spies and boarding school drama, making for a perfect introduction to the series—or a new favorite for long-time listeners.

The first day at a new school is tough for any kid, but it's especially scary when you're going to a school for spies. Cammie Morgan has spent her whole life dreaming of becoming a Gallagher Girl, but she has no idea what she’ll face when she arrives at The Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women. Secret passages? Check. Lab experiments that might make you lose your eyebrows (and other body parts)? Check. Classmates who are the smartest, strongest, most intimidating girls in the world? Double check.

Cammie might be a Gallagher legacy, but she's about to learn that the most intimidating part about the Gallagher Academy are the Gallagher Girls themselves. Soon Cammie and her clumsy-but-genius roommate Liz, and the glamorous Bex have to learn the most important lesson of the seventh grade: getting into spy school is hard. Surviving spy school is harder.

Wonderful story. Great balance between the main story line and the inner thoughts and feelings of a 12 year old girl. Nancy Drew of the 21st century. Enjoyable read for all ages.

Great read for adults and young girls!

Twelve-year-old Cammie Morgan is about to start her first semester at her new school, The Gallagher Academy for Exceptional Young Women. Her mother is also beginning there as the new Headmistress, after a career as a spy.

Oh, yes. Gallagher Academy isn't just any exclusive private girls' school. It's a training academy for future female spies, founded during the Civil War, after Gillian Gallagher prevented an assassination attempt on Abraham Lincoln. (No, not the one at the Ford Theater.)

Arriving at the Gallagher Academy is as stressful as starting any new school, for Cammie, and for her fellow first-year classmates. Cammie worries she's only there because she's a legacy. Her roommate Liz Sutton worries she doesn't belong because she's one of the few who isn't a legacy and neither of her parents has been a spy. Their other roommate is black girl from the UK whom some believe doesn't belong there because she's the first student ever who isn't an American.

In a school where there are secret passages, booby traps, and dangerous weapons, and many of the girls have picked up rudimentary spy skills from their parents, the normal cliquish in-fighting can get really bad. And one of their classmates has decided that not only should Cammie and her roommates not be students there; Cammie's mother also has no business being Headmistress.

It's short, it's exciting, and the characters are a lot of fun. Recommended.

Either I bought this audiobook, or it was one of the free Audible Originals offerings to members. I'm not sure which, now. Either way, I am reviewing it voluntarily.

A REALLY exciting start at a new school....

It was a fun light-hearted story. I felt it had a few inconsistencies, but it seemed to keep my attention and was a fun story.

My third-grader and I thoroughly enjoyed this book! We like Soler's performance for this prequel much better than the narrator for the Gallagher series.

Great Story and Excellent Narration!

First I have to say, I'm not female and I'm not a tween/teen either. I got this simply because it was a free book from Audible Originals for the month. I had enjoyed the Spy School series and this seemed like it could be similar. I was pleasantly surprised.

The reader does a great job with all of the characters and it is a fun light hearted story. Yes the story is a bit cliche and predictable, but it was still fun. Part Spy School, Part Harry Potter in an all girls school. I haven't read/heard of the Gallagher Girls books other than seeing them pop up in my recommended list from time to time. The only issue with this book was how short it was.

Good YA Spy Book
