Publisher's summary

From George Washington's reluctant oath taking through George W. Bush's leadership challenges after September 11, 2001, we view ambitious and fallible men through the new lens of the 21st century. Where did they succeed? Where did they fail? And what do we know now that we could not have known at the time?

Good general overview

This was a very easy book to listen to, mainly because each chapter is about a different president than the last. With the chapters being around 30 minutes each, it was certainly not too long to find the time. It is a very general overview, so don't expect a lot of new information, but it was enjoyable.

Stories of individual presidents

It discussed the relationships between various presidents as well as how they each governed. Of course it was very long but interesting.

Excellent mini-bio compilation

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and learning more about our Presidents. Some, I knew nothing about and others I knew a great deal about. Having them all presented back to back allowed for a more cohesive story over time, a continuity for which, I thoroughly enjoyed. Each bio did a really good job of encapsulating and providing just enough info to help you decide who you want to do more of a deep dive into and learn more about. You could then, for example, read David McCullough's Truman (which I highly recommend), if this book helped pique your interest in that President.

Listened Twice, It’s That Good

What an incredible summation of American history! The authors performed an i
remarkably detailed biography on each of the Presidents through Bush 43. The narrative by Mike Chamberlain adds to the unique quality of the storyline. Highly educational, incredibly interesting and informative. This audiobook is riveting!

slight political bias on certain candidates.

some of the facts that were given were conclusions that were slightly biased. when history says "some people tbought,... and you use that" and then you use those as actual facts about the person it's a little troubling.

where is the ending?

It seems reasonable that this book could have been updated since 2004. Great info on all our US Presidents, but it ends abruptly in the middle of the Bush (43) presidency.

Good history with a conservative slant

As an overview to each of the presidents, this is a good starter. However, particularly in the mid to late 20th century articles, it takes decidedly conservative view of the presidents and some of the conclusions, regarding Reagan and Nixon, especially, are pretty speculative and dubious. The laudatory analysis of George HW Bush was a head scratcher to anyone who remembered his presidency.
