About this listen

The greatest desire of Alexander Allerton, the earl of Bloxley, is to alleviate the suffering of the poor and less fortunate of England. So when his hackney carriage is involved in an accident that results in the death of one of those he is determined to help, he is devastated. Alexander vows to keep the promise he makes to the injured woman as she takes her final breaths: He will not rest until he finds her young son.

After a crippling accident years ago, Jane Hadford is accustomed to being largely ignored at social events. But being overlooked has allowed her to hone her observational skills - and she quickly perceives that all is not well with the handsome Lord Bloxley. When an unexpected opportunity arises to talk to the earl, he surprises them both by sharing with her his fruitless search for the child. Touched by Lord Bloxley’s story and by his desire to make things right, Jane determines to help him fulfill his promise. What she cannot anticipate, however, is that the quest she has chosen to undertake will bring into her life a small boy who will steal her heart and a gentleman who might well do the same.

Such a satisfying romance, lovely characters!

Berkshire, England
18th Century

Main Characters
Alexander Allerton, Earl of Bloxley: Earl with a heart
Jane Hadford: Crippled from a riding accident
Asher: Abused orphan Alexander and Jane are looking for
Aunt Millward: Jane's fun, outspoken aunt

Very clean, well thought out book.

A terrible carriage accident killed a flower woman. Before she passed she secured a promise from the Earl of Bloxley to find her son and let him know she loved him. All the earl had was a scrap of cloth to go on.

A new acquaintance overheard something that could be helpful in the earl's search…so with her assistance, and that of her understanding aunt, the hunt was on.

I don’t want to give away what happened with the child. Suffice it to say it was complicated. But in the meantime feelings were growing, and the romance that sprang from this collaboration was sigh-worthy.

The narrator did an amazing job! I especially liked the voice she used for Jane's father. I had to think twice that it was a woman speaking those words. Made me smile.

Easy to recommend such a delightful book.

Not my favorite

Although I did enjoy parts of this book, I unfortunately couldn’t get past the narrators voice. It was pleasant enough, but not having the women’s voices down correctly bothered me. However, I did enjoy the storyline and most of the characters

What stood out most: how potent and fearless love is.

I like that the author did not get caught in that Jane Austen trap of endless misunderstandings and tedious back and forth miscommunication. The author had several times she could have dragged the story out veering down unnecessary paths but she did not; I like her style.

Enjoyable

I really like the straight forward characters who are good in general and become better by the end of the story.

A New Favorite!

Fantastic writing and a wonderful story! It felt refreshingly original. I warmed up to narrator's style after increasing the speed. He was good.

An uncommon Earl

Great book. I really like the way the story evolved. The narrator was great as well. Will check out other books from this author in the future.

Great clean love story

a great book! I was hesistant at first due to what some of the reviews said, and the length of the book, but since I loved the first book so much, and really wanted to continue the series, I decided to use my credit for this book. I'm glad I did. The book was really engaging and so the length didn't feel too long nor did the story drag on. the couple are really well matched and very well written. I didn't understand the title of the book until towards the end, but I think it was very well chosen. I was thoroughly entertained throughout.

it's my first time listening to a male narrator and was for a few minutes a little put off by it, and the style of narration, but it quickly grew on me and I think he did a really good job after all. really recommend the story for fans of clean Regency romance

I LOVED, LOVED , LOVED THIS BOOK!

When I read the reviews I wasn’t so sure about wanting to spend my credit towards this book. Then I listened to the sample and had to buy an extra credit just so I could listen to it.

When it comes to saving children from abuse I am all in. Jason Tatom did a fantastic job with his narration of the children. He made them come alive. He was one of the first narrators I began listening to and it was like coming home.

I laughed and cried with this beautiful love story.
It is so worth the listening to!
