About this listen

Perturabo - master of siegecraft and the executioner of Olympia. Long has he lived in the shadow of his more favoured primarch brothers, frustrated by the mundane and ignominious duties which regularly fall to his Legion.

When Fulgrim offers him the chance to lead an expedition in search of ancient and destructive xenos weaponry, the Iron Warriors and the Emperor's Children unite and venture deep into the heart of the great star maelstrom that haunts Perturabo's dreams.

Pursued by vengeful survivors from Isstvan V and the revenants of a dead eldar world, they must work quickly if they are to unleash the devastating power of the Angel Exterminatus.

McNeil continues reign as my favorite 40k author

great book, enjoyed it cover to cover. back and forth perspective between the factions is a fun way to go and it was great to see Chaos taking it's steps toward damnation

Fun

I bought this book because I highly respect Iron Warriors and Perturabo. If you like EC debauchery there's plenty of that, especially if you're interested in Fabius Bile but this book focusses heavily on the IV legion. With that being said and to avoid spoilers this is an important moment for Fulgrim to say the least. If you were planning on reading Shattered Legions or more specifically The Seventh Serpent by the same author this is a prequel of those characters who are some of my favorites in the Horus Heresy. As I prefer to read along with the audio books I noticed a few inconsistencies between the narration and the text. The narrator himself does a fine job but he's no Toby Longworth. If your goal is to simply get what you need out of the Horus Heresy and be done this book can be avoided.

It's good, but...

I don't know if it's a good bad book or a bad good book.

it's good.

Solid 4 star experience one of the better horus heresy books. The performance as always is top notch. Story is good. a bit of disjointed though which keeps it from perfection.

An outstanding listen from start to finish!

I've just recently started to dive into the lore from this 40k universe, and so far, I have been amazed that it's taken me so long to discover it!

A deep spiral into the madness of Fulgrim.

This book is fantastic start to finish. If you want to read a book that gives the spotlight to the Iron Warriors and Perturabo, read Angel Exterminatus. Starting with an epic slaughter of a battle between the Iron Warriors and Imperial Fists, introducing Fulgrim in his bizarre flagrancy and slowly showing his descent into Daemon Primarchood, the book takes many twists and turns that are not only enjoyable to read but make you appreciate the absolute cold and bitter bad*sses that the Iron Warriors and Perturabo are. Perturabo went from being a Primarch I knew nothing about to one that I absolutely adore, a tactical mastermind and renaissance man that simply wanted to construct awe inspiring and beautiful structures for the Emperor but forced to tackle the most mentally and physically demanding grindfests that the Imperium could send him too. He is a dreamer turned broken soldier that is willing to do whatever it takes to win. Amazing book, one of my favorites. Easily.
