George Orwell
About this listen
"Animal Farm" by George Orwell: A Tale of Revolution, Power, and Betrayal
"All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others."
On a quiet farm, the animals rise up against their human masters, dreaming of a world where all are equal. Inspired by the ideals of freedom and justice, they overthrow their oppressive rulers. However, what begins as a hopeful revolution quickly spirals into a grim tale of power, corruption, and betrayal. George Orwell’s Animal Farm is a masterful allegory that explores the complexities of revolution and the inevitable corruption that follows.
The novel is much more than a simple fable about farm animals; it’s a sharp political commentary on the Russian Revolution and the subsequent rise of Stalinism in the Soviet Union. Orwell, who had witnessed the dangerous tendencies of totalitarianism, uses the farm’s inhabitants as a mirror to reflect the manipulation and betrayal that occurs in all revolutions. As the pigs, led by Napoleon, assume control, the animals begin to realize that their dream of equality has been twisted. "Napoleon is always right." This chilling slogan is drilled into their minds, embodying the way those in power demand unquestioning loyalty, turning a once hopeful cause into a tyranny of its own.
As Napoleon and the pigs grow more powerful, they adopt the oppressive behaviors of their former human masters. Their manipulation of language, the rewriting of history, and the gradual erosion of the original principles of Animalism reflect the ways in which totalitarian regimes exploit their people. Orwell shows how easily the promises of revolution can be co-opted by those who seek power for its own sake. "The only good human being is a dead one." This violent declaration marks the radical shift in the animals’ mindset as they embrace the bloodshed and hatred of their former human oppressors.

Lucas knows the perfect night entails just three things: video games, wine, and pad thai. Peanuts are a must! Other people? Not so much. Why complicate things when he’s happy alone? Then one day the apartment board, a vexing trio of authority, rings his doorbell. And Lucas’s solitude takes a startling hike. They demand to see his frying pan. Someone left one next to the recycling room overnight, and instead of removing the errant object, as Lucas suggests, they insist on finding the guilty party. But their plan backfires. Colossally.

We all have things in our life that we should know by now, but don’t. Absences in our knowledge and skillset that are frankly shameful in an adult. Things that would be too embarrassing to ask anyone to explain – except our very best friend. Listen in as Mel and Sue tackle their ignorance head on, asking each other to explain something that they still don’t know - but absolutely, as adults, should - from how to parallel park to fully understanding bread (why has it got all those holes in it? A bad best man’s speech can ruin a wedding. Why do we plan every detail of a perfect day and then give the groom’s idiot best friend five minutes of total power? Enter Nate (Glen Powell), a speechwriter-for-hire who helps people write incredible best man speeches. To keep the best man from embarrassing himself (and the newlyweds), Nate uses his list of don’ts: Don’t mention the exes, don’t be rated R, and don’t bum everyone out. Nate’s system never fails. Powerful Yet Short
Extremely strong audiobook. Sometimes it was creepy how much like real life this book is. Annotations helped to explain underlying meanings I had not caught previously. Lost a star because I would have liked it to be longer.

Love this book!!
I recently finished reading "Animal Farm," and I found it to be an incredibly insightful and thought-provoking book. The allegorical storytelling was both clever and engaging, making it easy to see the parallels to real-world events. Orwell's portrayal of the gradual corruption of ideals was chilling and serves as a powerful reminder of the dangers of power unchecked. The characters, though animals, were so vividly crafted that they felt entirely human. I was particularly struck by the ending, which left me pondering long after I closed the book. It's a timeless piece that I believe everyone should read at least once.

Recomind this book!
"Animal Farm" is a fascinating read that cleverly uses farm animals to explore complex political themes. Orwell’s writing is both concise and impactful, making it easy to follow yet deeply profound. I was impressed by how well the book captures the dangers of totalitarianism and the fragility of freedom. The story unfolds with an intriguing mix of humor and tragedy, keeping me engaged from start to finish. It's remarkable how relevant the narrative remains, despite being published decades ago. This book left me with much to ponder about leadership and society, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an insightful.

Great
I recently finished reading "Animal Farm" and was thoroughly impressed by its clever storytelling and profound message. The allegory is incredibly well-crafted, with each character representing a different facet of society. It's fascinating how Orwell captures the complexities of power and corruption through the lens of a seemingly simple farm tale. The progression from idealism to tyranny is both gripping and thought-provoking. I couldn't help but reflect on its relevance to contemporary issues. This book is a brilliant reminder of the importance of vigilance in preserving freedom and equality. A must-read for anyone interested in political literature.

A Journey from Hope to Darkness
The author was so descriptive. The story started out so optimistically, and slowly but surely became so dark—it really made me ponder. Orwell's point about power and how it corrupts so quickly is more true today than ever.

Wow
"Animal Farm" is a brilliant and unsettling tale that captures the complexities of power and control in a society. I was amazed by Orwell's ability to convey such profound themes through a seemingly simple story about farm animals. Each character symbolizes aspects of human nature and political dynamics, making the narrative both entertaining and enlightening. The language is straightforward yet powerful, allowing the message to resonate deeply without feeling heavy-handed. As I turned the last page, I was left with a sense of urgency to reflect on the current state of affairs in our own world. It's a masterpiece that continues to be relevant and impactful.

Chilling Yet Brilliant
Loved this so much! Napoleon's character is frighteningly realistic. All the animals in the book seemed symbolic and important. This edition sent shivers down my spine. And also, bravo to the narrator—very dramatic and crisp voice.

Wow. I had read Animal Farm in school, but this annotated deluxe edition really opens one's eyes. Enjoyed the narrator's serious but not unengaging tone. A must-audiobook if you like political allegories.
