The year is 1876. Warring Indian tribes still populate America's western territories, even as lawless gold-rush towns begin to mark the landscape. In much of the country, it is still illegal to espouse evolution. Against this backdrop two monomaniacal paleontologists pillage the Wild West, hunting for dinosaur fossils while surveilling, deceiving, and sabotaging each other in a rivalry that will come to be known as the Bone Wars.

Story
Two mighty armies blunder toward each other, one led by confident, beloved Robert E. Lee and the other by dour George Meade. They’ll meet in a Pennsylvania crossroads town where no one planned to fight. In this sweeping, savagely realistic novel, the greatest battle ever fought on American soil explodes into life at Gettysburg. As generals squabble, staffs err. Tragedy unfolds for immigrants in blue and barefoot Rebels alike. The fate of the nation will be decided in a few square miles of fields. There are no marble statues here, only men of flesh and blood, imperfect and courageous.

Disappointing sequel
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
No. It lacked the creative plot elements and interest of Apache Storm, and was even more predictable and cliche ridden.
Would you ever listen to anything by Jason Manning again?
Possibly, but I would check the reviews first.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Tom Stechschulte?
Yes, he's a terrific narrator.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
Would depend on the cast and direction.
Any additional comments?
Really enjoyed the first book of this trilogy, Apache Storm. The whole family listened to it on a long car trip and thoroughly enjoyed it. Though the writing is somewhat cliched (Shots ring out, hearts hammer, etc.) the plot was terrific and the characters reasonably engaging.
The second book fails to live up to the first; I was disapointed and probably won't listen to the third.)

Apache anguish
This book is so bad I kept listening just to see how much worse it could become. The author did not let me down. The reader must have stifled a few laughs as he tried to read seriously.

Raw, Gritty -- A Real Wild West Ride!
If you could sum up Apache Shadow in three words, what would they be?
First, I can't believe more people aren't listening to this and giving it higher ratings! Seriously, the whole series is spell binding and the story line is solid. Listen to this, you won't be disappointed! And you can't beat the narration by Stechschulte. He nails it all the way through.
Any additional comments?
This series is in my top 10 of all time audio series -- the only Western to make it.
