Publisher's summary

They say that necessity is the mother of all inventions. Amir Weatherby has the world in his hands, quite literally. When his company discovers an asteroid on a direct collision course with Earth, they decide to keep the news quiet and find a way to survive the impending apocalypse themselves. Secret projects begin with the intent of preventing the world going the same way as the dinosaurs.

Three top-secret sites are developed, each designed to hold a small pocket of the human race safe until after impact. It just so happens that one of these sites is in space. The former ISS is transformed into a safe haven called the ARC, the Automated Resettlement and Repopulation Cryostation, where some of the world’s greatest scientific minds will sleep through the whole show.

But events unfold in ways that couldn’t have been predicted, and when they arrive back on Earth there is a whole new disaster waiting for them.

What a surprise!

Wow. Whoevers reading this, i hope for your sake you heed my words when i say this is definitely worth a listen. No empty bluster or easily given praise, just the honest to god truth. This really did take me by surprise. I seen this during a promotion on audible or something and liked the description so decided to give it a shot but wasnt expecting much. It exceeded my every expectation. The characters were well developed, believable and likable. Flawed humans just doing their best to get through the situation they found themselves in. A very comprehensive take on what could be done if someone with money and influence got enough warning before an extinction level event. It kinda vaguely reminded me of Earthside by Dennis E Taylor but executed alot better. There was some confusing perspective changes that were done in such a way that it seemed accidental, maybe because of a miscommunication between the 2 writers or something. But it seemed this book was supposed to be told from the 1st person perspective of the computer guy but there were times when the perspective changed in a very subtle way where i didnt even noticed it changed and got confused a few times. Not a big deal just took me outa the story for a second wondering if the writers messed up or it was just poorly done. Editor prolly shoulda caught that.
Im not familiar with the narrator from anything else hes done, which is rare, but he did a really good job. If you enjoy base building, new world exploring, starting over after apocalypse type sci fi then youll definitely get a kick out of this one. Ive already listened to the next 2 books and the plot stays strong and progresses steadily throughout. If you havent already purchased this then id make the suggestion to get the 2 pack that can be located by clicking on the series thing under the authors name. I didnt notice that until i was going to get the 2nd book. I found it worth it anyway, a bit short but id prefer short and sweet then long and arduous. Hope this series continues for many books to come!

An interesting notion

Not the best apocalypse bopk but not bad either. I found the Big Rich Founder annoying, as I was supposed to. The narrator did a good job and the author captured the essence of humans facing a catastrophe. All in all if there are more books in the series I will check them out.

Really enjoyed this new series

I listened to it, then re-listened. I cannot wait for the next one. I try to wait until all books in series are done so I won't have to wait on next book. Hopefully the next will come very soon.

what happened at the end?

The narrator was great, he used different tones and was audible well.

The story was interesting but the end wasn't clear or understandable for me.

I recommend this book if you can buy it with discount.

Really liked this one!

It's a short listen but incredibly worth it. Entertaining with a fully developed plot, likable characters that aren't one dimensional, and, while not necessarily "gripping", it definitely held my interest. Would love to listen to the next book in the series!

Sci-fi with multiple hooks that beckon book 2

Well-executed book that captures the events leading up to a humanity ending meteor strike, the attempts to save people, and the beginning of the aftermath. What stands out is that there are a few elements to this tale that captivate, hitting various topics that excite sci-fi fans. First, is exploring the scientific/engineering options if we knew there was an impeding meteor-induced apocalypse. Then there is the advent of an sentient AI, and discovering how it and humans will interact. And, finally, the myriad of issues with rebuilding a functional and peaceful society with limited resources and outside threats. I'm definitely looking forward to reading/listening to the next book.

Constipated Narration really spoiled the story

Storyline is outdated. Women who twirl their hair and talk like a 1960’s southern belle. Men who are either powerful macho asses or simpering wimps. Warring tribes and (big surprise) the AI has developed sentience.
Drivel.

Start of a great new series ( sort of opera like )

Wow. Quite the debut of a new, very large series by Devon Ford and Marc Veitor. It looks like a strong combination going forward to be sure!
Ford crafts a powerful, realistic dystopian future vision, with enough character development and plot twists to keep the listener coming back for more. Although this story is Book 1, it can stand alone on its own merits.
Marc Veitor is one of the more talented, and unique, Audible performers, and his work on this offering further cements that reputation. Consistent characterizations, with a solid balance between dramatics and atmosphere building, all combine to produce a fascinating, entertaining and, at times, concerning, introduction to the series.
Definitely looking forward to the next book!
Highly recommended.

A good and fun read.

It's an interesting idea. It feels like it was executed half heartedly with only the idea to sell future books. It left me hanging in act 2.
