About this listen

Archie Goodwin leaves Manhattan for the Midwest to find out who put a bullet into a banker.

Archie Goodwin’s aunt Edna is about to lure him away from his work at Nero Wolfe’s New York brownstone. After a phone call, he heads off to Ohio, where the president of Farmer’s State Bank and Trust, an elderly widower, has died in an apparent suicide. But Archie’s aunt has expressed nagging suspicions - which only grow stronger when someone takes a shot at a local reporter who wrote about the case.

It wouldn’t be a small town without some gossip, and Archie soon hears the whispers: romantic intrigues, a possible paternity case, a ruined business. While reconnecting with his aging mother - and fending off his nagging aunt - Archie tries to untangle a web of grudges, scandals, and murder.

From Nero Award-winner Robert Goldsborough, this is a brand-new novel in the series created by Rex Stout, starring one of the world’s most beloved detectives and his equally engaging sidekick.

The stories are always fun, but it’s Ganser’s reading that makes the people come alive.

Best narrator in the business!

This was a very interesting story set in Ohio. An insight into archies background was entertaining.

Excellent

As a casual reader of Nero mysteries since high school I don't know why other reviewers have to be so harsh on Mr. Goldsborough. For me it's an enjoyable romp with some of my favorite detectives. I avoided this one at first but found it rewarding to listen to. You may not get to sit in the red leather chair at the brownstone but you will find some great listening ahead.

I was expecting something more interesting. The ending was somewhat anti-climatic. It was okay.

One of my favorites. Archie Goes Home was particularly good. Also liked Archie in the Crosshairs.

Nero Wolfe

“Archie Goes Home” continues the Wolfe tradition honorably. Robert Goldsborough, the continuator author, has truly settled into the rhythm firmly established by Rex Stout. The clues to resolve the mystery are subtle when read and obvious when explained. I love getting so much more of Archie’s backstory. His mother is a lively addition to the cast of characters and, having met her, it is easy to see where Archie’s inquisitive nature was nurtured. LJ Ganser is a terrific narrator and I cannot fathom why “Murder Stage Left” was narrated by, perhaps, the single worst narrator in the history of Audible. Ganser is the voice of these characters now. I look forward to the next Goldsborough / Ganser collaboration.

A strong addition to the Wolfe oeuvre

Entertaining, well read, interesting story, typical of Nero Wolfe mysteries that I am familiar with. No offensive language or deeply disturbing scary parts.

True to a Nero Wolfe Story

We know Archie is a good guy. Now we know why. His mother and their respect for other. Archie mom enjoys life

Lot of fun

Far more chatty than a classic Stout; maybe the setting and all the family characters brought this on, but it would have been better if author resisted!

More Wolfe!
