About this listen

Philip Palmer, the best-selling author of Hell Ship, crafts science fiction works that have earned him a reputation as one of the best in the business. In Artemis, con artist and killer Artemis McIvor took the collapse of the galactic government as the opportunity to go on a crime spree to end all crime sprees. But when the law finally catches up to her, she’s given a choice: spend the rest of her life cooling her heels in prison or accept a deadly mission to save all of humanity.

This book is over the top and just not my type of story. I can handle and often like a story with crass comments but this book just has so much of that and not a lot else.

Way to much cussing and way way to much wondering.

This is written in the first person. The story jumps around a bit. I had to re-listen to parts of the story in order to keep things straight. I did enjoy the story. It was interesting to have a science fiction story with emphasis on the characters. This is first story I have listened to by Philip Palmer. I have added him to my list of authors. I enjoyed Heather O'Neill's narration. Robert Ian Mackenzie does a good job too. At first I thought his inserts were actually from the editor.

A little confusing

That was one of the strangest books I've ever listened to. The action sequences were so over the top absurd that I basically stopped paying attention to them in any detail. This left me with a humorous story of a remorseless but somehow still innocent serial killer.

Heather O'Neill's narration was spot on. I'll look for her other work on Audible.

Weird but fun

The premise of this book is different from its description in a few ways. It is presented as a recollection from a far future as a look back on an antihero who has major flaws and still plays a pivotal part in a sci fi history. The protagonist is scary yet likable with a crass sense of humor. Be prepared to hear about drugs, sex, cursing and plenty of violence. The narrator's do an amazing job. Its definitely worth listen just not around kids.

Future biography of an interesting antihero

What disappointed you about Artemis?

The book was nothing like its description. It was a suggested book at the end of the On The Edge Series which was absolutely amazing. I was expecting Artemis to be good as well. The narrator didn't help make the book interesting.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I listened to the Riyria Revelations by Michael J. Sullivan (a great book with an excellent narrator- Tim Gerard Reynolds).

How could the performance have been better?

If it was a different book or majorly edited with a different narrator, it would have been much better.

Any additional comments?

The book was so boring and lacking in any entertainment. I always love getting in the car to listen to books while I drive, but with this one I dreaded driving anywhere to have to listen to it. I'm not sure if you can pass out zero stars, if that's possible it would be a zero.

I would NEVER recommend this book.
