About this listen

An ancient, alien technology that will change what it means to be human, a conspiracy begun before the first pyramid was built, and a world threatened by an unimaginable horror.

Deep in the Indian Ocean, Dr. Selene Khan enters an underwater dome thousands of years old, one that is fully operational. She barely escapes to the surface, only to discover that her research vessel has vanished. Can she make it to shore 100 miles away?

On the other side of the world, Agent Jack Elliot uncovers an impossible 900 grams of antimatter. The trail leads him to Egypt, betrayal, and a sinister brainwashing facility. There, in a desperate move, he rescues Dr. Selene Khan, fleeing with her into the desert.

Together, Selene and Jack race to unravel a global conspiracy and learn the truth about an ancient, alien artifact and how civilization really began. Two people must summon the courage and extraordinary ability to stop the world's oldest plan from plunging humanity onto a twisted, evolutionary path.

Artifact is a lightning-paced adventure, utterly unpredictable right up to its stunning conclusion.

Great narrator, meh story

Too long and too many details that didn’t add to the story. I finished it, but it leave me wanting more!
The voice performance was great, though!

Probably best for YAs

Story starts off well, quick paced and introducing potentially interesting puzzles but it soon devolved into a too-long exposition of pseudo-science and pseudo-philosophy that strains this reader's ability to suspend disbelief. The end is far too long and leaves much unanswered.

Cover not what it seems

OK the cover looks like a crashed space ship, this book has nothing to do with space ships per sec. I almost stopped listening to the book because it jumped around a bit and I was loosing my place in the story. It took about 6 chapters for me to get into it, at that is to long in my world

All that said it was an interesting story but the pace was slow, JMHO. I am not a big fan of Logan White and this is the first time I have heard of him. Maybe he will grow on me.
I never did get a feeling of attachment with any of the charterers I could less if they survived or not. I think for that reason if there is a follow up book I will avoid it.

I thin Vaugh has written better books this was not my fav.

Ending seems rushed

Interesting story line The beginning spends a lot of time giving detailed back stories. The end of the book fells rushed, almost like it was beginning brought to end because of time, length? overall I enjoyed it!

Skims the surface of the main mystery

Well written but does not get into the main mystery of the story at all.

Who build the stations?

What did you love best about Artifact?

A good combination of science fiction and mystery. Anti matter, ray guns and gravity repellers were great science fiction plot devices. The mystery of the stations and " Mother's" secret organization and agenda is a good thread.

What did you like best about this story?

One of the lead characters in the story is a strong female, Dr. Selene Khan. She was smart, confident and has the "take no prisoner" attitude.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Although this book is captivating, it wasn't a book I couldn't put down. Certain parts of the story of slow such as when Selene Khan and Jack Elliott were traveling to the Caucus mountain in Iran.

Any additional comments?

Some threads were left unresolved like who actually build the stations, who was the "mother" character and what is her relationship to the stations? Her ultimate fate was also left dangling (alive? dead? Captured?). I recommend this book as a commute book -- something to listen to during the commute.
