About this listen

Gemma Summers is unlucky in love. She's known it since third grade, when her first crush blew a spitball into her hair, and a decade-long string of bad dates, boring sex, and abysmal morning afters has done nothing to improve her prospects. But when a random radio call-in contest lands her courtside tickets to the hottest playoff game of the season, Gemma's luck may finally be on the upswing, even if it doesn't exactly seem like it when the dreaded Jumbotron kiss cam lands on her and her date, who's too busy ignoring her to notice.

Chase Croft doesn't date. Despite ample opportunity as Boston's most eligible bachelor, the reformed bad boy would rather put his energy into taking over the family business than weed through a world of gold diggers to find an honest woman. But when the beautiful girl in the seat next to him becomes a courtside spectacle at the hands of her loser boyfriend, he can't help but step in and save the day.

I enjoyed the story and would recommend this book but only if the narrator being yell-y isn't a problem for you. She was always way too emotional and it got annoying about halfway through. She missed many jokes because of it. It didn't bother me too much but it was still kinda annoying. She also managed to not yell the lines that were suppose to be super emotional..

Good story but the narrator missed the mark.

The story is unrealistic. I didn't like the main girl character. She was very whiny and immature.

Just ok....

Performance is a bit strident and overdone. Issues with the story line- really detest the portrayal of artists as helpless, clueless women. It’s incredibly insulting. In general I hate that authors are still portraying their female leads as weak dingy women unable to stand up for themselves or complete a sentence when dealing with assholery and nasty men. This plot device needs to be permanently retired. I expect better from female authors.

Female authors please stop writing weak female characters.

Started out optimistic about this story. Don’t really understand why Chase is chasing her so hard after a total of mere hours spent together. Halfway through the book I realize Emma wants to be strong willed but has zero regard for her own safety. Shocked your apartment was broken into after your ex literally told you that’s what he’s done before. As soon as someone tells me that, all locked are changed and door sensors installed. Though that should already be installed as a single person living alone. He’s super pushy and she’s a pushover. 3/5 maybe 2/5 but the writing isn’t horrible, it’s the story that isn’t great.

I have it a chance

Alright, let’s start with the audiobook: whoever approved the narrator’s attempt at a “man voice” must have had a sense of humor, because it was hilariously awful. Imagine Spock doing yoga and trying to sound macho—it was impossible to take it seriously. Every time Chase spoke, I had to pause to recover from the unintentional comedy.

Now, onto the story. Chase is the epitome of the macho billionaire who insists everything is his way, which is just not my cup of tea. Seriously, why do these fictional heroines always fall for the “I say jump, you say how high” kind of guy? Gemma deserved better! Also, Chase giving her a cell phone without secretly tracking it? Come on. That man screams “AirTag enthusiast,” and it would’ve made the whole kidnapping fiasco way less ridiculous. And speaking of ridiculous—the kidnapping and attempted murder subplot felt so over-the-top that I half expected a Bond villain to pop out.

I’ll admit, the storyline had potential, but Chase’s overbearing “there’s something between us whether you like it or not” attitude made it impossible for me to root for their relationship. Gross. Overall, it’s a 2.8/5 for me—decent bones, but way too much cringe

started amazing, the first chapter were captivating, unfortunately it did not stay that way, it went down, it was not horrible, it went a bit bizarre, then came back a bit better but could not recuperate, nice enough though. narrators were great!

nice story

Gemma Summers is strong willed and makes that very known early on in the story. Chase made his intentions early on but softened as the story goes along. Love this story and how Gemma found her true love.

Gemma rocks!!

The voice actor was fantastic. Sometimes I don’t like women doing Mills voices and they are icky, but this one was great.

Funny romance
