About this listen

Let's be real - customers suck.

Being sandwiched between needy customers and incompetent leadership at a greedy corporation sets an impossible expectation. It's Tony's job to "reset the customer experience" with no tools other than his customer-oriented attitude and expression of the company's hip and trendy culture.

Ha ha. Right.

Tony knows his wife might not make it through this pregnancy. She's on bedrest due to a mass in the womb and odds are it's cancerous. Every payday when bills outweigh their income, he's forced to choose between packing in hours at Pizza Corp or spending what could be the last few months with his wife....

And that's where he finds himself - staring into the customers' eyes, one after another, watching them complain about a five-minute delay on a pepperoni pizza, and Tony has to stop and wonder...is any of this worth it?

I laughed and I cried what more can you want from a book. I also enjoyed how detailed the parts about the food service industry was.

I was skeptical but the characters got me

As a former retail worker, this book really resonated with me in a way that a lot of people who haven't experienced that might not get. I think this book really captures the essence of retail America.

Holy eff, this book is amazing!

Excellent view into the daily life of a pizza place. The camaraderie of the employees and the moronic cruelty of the customers really makes you think about how to treat good service workers better.

This was funny, sad, and tense. I really got a feel for the panic feeling of an out of control dinner rush!

This is a brilliant book, if you’ve ever had a job in the service industry you’ll relate to it so much you will likely have some not so great flashbacks. Even if you’ve been lucky enough to never have such a job, read this anyway, and maybe, just maybe you’ll learn a thing or two about having respect for all people, no matter their station in life. Great narrator as well, a very compelling listen, I highly recommend.

Have you worked in the service industry?

Grabbing worked in a corporate run pizza store as a teen, this was both highly amusing and punishing. Love a book that makes me feel.

Fantastic trauma inducing book

I loved this book from start to finish. Having worked in food service I can attest that it holds true. Most customers are fine but some of them are heinous. I hope more people read and or listen to this and maybe rethink how they treat those in service industries.

Depressingly accurate
