Publisher's summary

Who’s the dragon going to call for a ghost problem? Me.

I don’t normally deal with nasty ghosts, but when Nix needs help, I’m the only one qualified. His dragons are under attack, and it’s up to me to stop it. But Nix isn’t making it easy. He seems determined to hate me because I’m a necromancer, and he wants nothing to do with the attraction smoldering between us.

This specter isn’t a random haunting, and it's connected to both Nix and me. We’re going to have to work together to defeat it, but if Nix finds out how I’m connected, any trust I’ve built with him will go up in smoke.

Can a necromancer and a dragon find a way to make it work? With evil spirits abounding, it’s more than just our lives at stake, and if we fail, death is only the beginning of our suffering.

Enemies to Lovers

Ashes and Grave is Book 2 in the Dragon Magic series. This was a fascinating, action packed book of dragon shifters and necromancers with an unexpected mating between Mikhail and Nix. When it can down to it they were really there for each other.
Narrator Lance Adams does a wonderful job.

Surprisingly pleasant series!

I did not expect to enjoy this series as much as I do but I do lol. This book was fun to listen too and the narrator made it pleasantly easy to enjoy it. I’m looking forward to the next one.

Fiery and Magical

I wasn’t sure what to expect with Jill Haven & Aiden Bates’ dragon shifter and necromancer pair up but I find this one really enjoyable. I love the world building, the laws and structure and the insular nature of Nix’s wyrd. The pacing of the story is excellent, details unfolding as we go, even Nix’s very unpleasant way of treating Mikhail and to how that changed.. Nix’s and Mikhail’s characters are multi faceted and you can’t help but root for them, theirs is not just an enemies to lovers, because it goes deeper and to see their relationship grow, evolve and strengthen was awesome.

I also enjoyed how the art of necromancy was written in this book. 💜 I enjoyed the twists and turns. I can’t wait for more. I may have been heart broken with Gabby but it all worked out in the end.

Lance Adams was great in bringing the characters to life, his accent for Mikhail, it worked. 🙂

Loving this series!!!!

I loved Nix and Mikhail!! I really liked the first story in this series, but I loved this one! Nix was the leader of his dragon weyr and Mikhail is a necromancer. Nix’s weyr has a “ghost” problem and has need of a necromancer. The story line of this one was so much clearer and more concise. The twist and turns in this were heart breaking at times. But it was so good!! The narration was great!

Magical

Jill Haven & Aiden Bates makes a great writing pair. Loved the characters and their adventure, sad that the first book is not available yet but did not effect the listening experience, book stands on its own. Lance Adams have a great range of voices for all the characters.

Fabulous!

I absolutely loved this audiobook! Having not only dragons but also magic just made my day! Mikhail and Nix started out on the wrong foot, but pretty soon. They decided that wasn't where they wanted to be. This is full of action, suspense, and emotion!

Wonderful Listen

This was a wonderful read/listen. Mikhail and Nix are two very opposite people who have a twisted history that they never even knew about. but before they get to that they both dont want to like each other but love doesnt really care and pushes them into what is best for both of them. Well written and loved the characters.

Great story and performance

I liked the first book in this series, but I love ths one! Mikhail and Nix are the perfect example of the enemies to lovers story, and I must say for the first eight chapters of the book Nix felt like my enemy as well. Talk about an unlikeable character. Nix's father Roland is the leader of the dragons in the weyr, but he is ill and Nix is acting in his place without the full support of the advisory council. Under normal circumstances, this lack of unanimity might not be a problem, but the weyr is under attack from a murderous poltergeist. Nix does manage to convince enough of the council to pay to bring in a mage to rid the weyr of the spirit, but his treatment of Mikhail is deliberately rude from the start. In fact, his stubborn resentment of the man called to help them endangers everyone and is frustrating as all get out for the reader. However, in chapter eight we learn some things about both Nix and Mikhail and their families that make Nix's behaviour completely understandable and we see him begin to open up to Mikhail both personally and with information about the weyr and Roland's health that will possibly lead to a solution of the problem. As they work together, the two men grow more and more attracted to each other and eventually take a step that will either save the weyr or lead to its destruction. Just when you think there might be a light at the end of the tunnel, however, a secret Mikhail has kept from Nix threatens everything. You now have to wonder, will they be able to stand against the evil when their relationship seems broken, will Nix have the courage to do what is necessary to become true leader of the weyr and is there an even greater threat waiting than the one they face here? By this time in the book, it was 1 a.m. and there was no way I was going to quit reading until I had my answers. I finished the book around 2:30 a.m. and the payoff was even better than I hoped. There is one heck of a final battle, a reunion that will necessitate a tissue or two, a ringing demonstration of the power of love and friendship and then, just a reminder that while this battle has been won, there is a wider war still going on outside the weyr and across the country. Oh man, I cannot wait for the next entry in this series! I almost wish I had started reading it after it was all done so I could just binge read right on through to see how everything ends when all the books are finished. I had high hopes for the audio version of this story and Lance Adams was met and exceeded my expectations. Nix's character change and Mikhail's initial frustrations in dealing with him were perfectly voiced and the looming troubles in this world are clearly foreshadowed even after they establish their relationship. I look forward to hearing Mr. Adams in future additions to the series.

Enjoyed every minute

Dragons and Necromancer's need I say more, Eh' I do, ok, ok.
Nix and Mikhail's story is enemies to lovers, with so much growth. Add the twists and turns. That keep you guessing, the wonderful world building and great characters, and you got a great listen.
The narrator also did an excellent job with the voices.

Exciting, sexy and fun!

The authors of this story, Jill Haven and Auden Bates, created a fantastical world. With twists and turns like I’ve never read before, I was constantly drawn into the story further as each chapter carried on. The characters, all well thought out and brilliantly delivered, were realistic and entertaining. The stories of the main characters childhoods were heartfelt and sad, giving them so much depth as adults. When characters are so endearing and the writing is so descriptive and creative the readers are able to feel all the feelings the characters felt.

The narrator was excellent. This is the first time I’ve ever listened to anything he has done and I was far from disappointed. Lance gave this story passion and depth and life the way few narrators ever could. His accents and change of tone between each character made the story seemless and dialogue flowed naturally and clearly. He gave that oomph I love in a spicy scene and the heart wrenching agony in painful moments.

I will enjoy listening to both more stories from the authors and more narrations from Lance!
