About this listen

A battle is coming, the greatest the Rim has seen in 10,000 years, a fight for freedom, for the future, for the very survival of all humanity holds dear. Tyler Barron and his comrades are ready for their greatest test, but even as they prepare to hold the line at Fortress Striker, to turn back the Highborn’s imminent attack, the enemy have opened another front, one far to the rear.

Before Barron and his spacers can face their own ordeal, a ragtag force must hold another fortress, an older one that has seen many battles, but has long been neglected and allowed to fall into decay. If they fail, Barron and his vast fleet will face enemies to their front and to the rear...and any chance of victory will be lost.

Meanwhile, Andi Lafarge and her small crew scour the depths of the Badlands, searching for the secret weapon the empire used to defeat the Highborn three centuries before...and possibly the only real hope for victory in the current war.

The greatest struggle humanity has faced is nearing its climax. Warriors struggle and die, giant warships clash, worlds burn...but will the suffering lead to a new hope for humanity...or the endless dark age that has been feared since the fall of the empire?

Ending Disappointing

Story should have ended with this book; it did not. Attempt to move on looks to be for money only - very disappointing.

It Just Doesn’t Get Any Better Than BOTS!

Military sci-fi just doesn’t get any better than this! Jay Allan’s incomparable storytelling, together with Mark Boyett’s rousing narration, puts the listener right in the thick of the battle and makes you cry or gasp or shudder or take deep breaths of relief! The stakes have never been higher! But what will be the full cost of preventing the death or enslavement of billions of people? Will the end justify the horrific means?

What happened to the Transports

OMG, when Baron pulled Fritz aside and said, Fritz I have a plan for all those empty Transport". This was after Baron had distributed all the Marines throughout the fleet to help in repairs. I was waiting with anticipation on the last battle that Baron was going to use those Transports for a crippling blow. I hate when the writer forgets those details.

Stretch

I always enjoy this series, but I had this feeling he is trying to stretch the length of this book. So much reiteration and recalling of earlier facts. I kept thinking I got it the first time. Still a good story. Maybe the next book will get us farther down the road.
