Publisher's summary

When a sexy nudist hires him to protect her from whoever is threatening her life, Nick Bancroft becomes the target. Someone tries to burn him alive, beats the hell out of him, and, since that didn't run him off, uses him for target practice. Meanwhile, two people are murdered, Nick's true love, Maggie Atley, is more than somewhat perturbed by his relationship with his client, and a mysterious club seems to hold the answer. Nick survives another losing season by his beloved Chicago Cubs, a vicious attack by a couple of huge dogs, and eventually puts the finger on the bad guys.

Kept me guessing right up to the end!

August is Murder is book #2 in the Nick Bancroft mystery series. Nick visits a woman who says someone is trying to kill her and his whole life is turned upside down. I binged this one because I couldn't wait to see how it turned out. This is a new author for me. I enjoyed the writing style, the characters, and the touch of romance.

James Cheatham did a fantastic job with the narration. He voiced Nick exactly as I imagined he would sound and did an amazing job with all the other characters as well. 5/5 stars!!

High Action Mystery

If you enjoy Philip Marlowe, Sam Spade, and Nathan Heller, then you will like Nick Bancroft. Keep the pages turning as he bobs, weaves, and spins through vicious dogs, murderous villains, and erotic damsels in distress. All the while, he never takes his eye off the prize -- the mystery of "the club" which controls the town.

The narration is excellent.

twisted tale

What a twisted tale!! I didn't know who the killer was. I was shocked to find out who done it. Those women!!! lol. Twisted dark deeds for greed and power. Great mystery. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a great job with voices and expressions. I enjoyed it

What a wonderful adventure tale!

I am a big fan of James Cheatham’s narration, and he out does himself in this story. It is very much a 1950s style whodunit with a hard-boiled private eye, er, reporter that is. Love it, Will definitely be looking at Mr. Liter’s other tales.
