Publisher's summary

Overmatched and far from home, torn between revenge and duty, Elena Aureli is running out of time.

She has youth, beauty, and money, all of which she pours into her obsessive hunt for the man she believes murdered her father. Betrayed in an attempt to secure proof of the crime, she finds herself alone in an unfamiliar city—mysterious Old Montreal—her prey now the predator, and only five days left to finish the job for which she has sacrificed so much.

Already pushed to the limits of her considerable resources, Elena must suddenly recalibrate her mission when her estranged half-brother, Miles, enters the picture, desperately in need of her protection. But keeping Miles alive may cost Elena her one shot at settling the score. Unless…

Elena is quick and Elena is clever, but to honor her father, as well as avenge him, she’ll have to do the impossible.

Meh...

Decent story, weak characters, predictable plot. Reader OK until she tried to do accents. Almost too much to bear. No more books by Judson for me.

Good, and not so good!

Hmm.. I don't know how I feel about this book. You got the impression that Elena tough and brave but she had never killed anyone. And her half-brother Miles was absolutely nothing, unless it would be gullible. And Angelina was SO obviously Trask's little soldier but when it came to her Miles could only think with his d**k. There was a little excitement in this book but not near enough. Elena was a definitely a let down.

Fade-to-black sex and the F-bomb was used 16 times.

As for the narration: Christina Traister did a fabulous job on the voices and the emotions when she read.

Avenged, waste of time

What did you like best about Avenged? What did you like least?

Good narration, but the story is flat and predictable. I kept waiting for something exciting to happen, or a turn of events.

Unrealistic and a constant blame game.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

First, I think there are people that will like this book. When I say blame I mean they think it is one person and then another and on and on. Another farce that doesn't make sense, a father abandons a child, spends a fortune to watch over him but not help with money, school or care when the child's mother dies. Have another child soon after and give her the world. His stepsister tells him it was to protect him because he loved him. That doesn't make since. He could have taken him with him and his stepsister. This theme is essential to the story so it persists to be irritating.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I don't know. I haven't liked the last several books. I wish there were more historical fiction (paranormal, romance drama, murder) Not just romantic historical fiction, those are too predictable.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Christina Traister?

I have a few favorites that do male, female and accents exceptionally. Jennifer Ikeda, Tavia Gilbert and Kristin Potter. When she is the narrator she is good, her accents are okay, Elena okay, Miles okay but, one of the main characters Trask is terrible. I thought Trask was a girl until they stated Trask is a male.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The premise was okay. It was a little beat into the ground that you can't trust anyone. Everyone is blaming everyone else for her father's murder. It goes on and on.

Any additional comments?

I believe there are people who will like this book. I couldn't finish it. I will try again another time. In the books defense, right now if a book doesn't capture my interest in the first three chapters I will hang in there a little and quit.
