About this listen

Three Volumes in a single offering!

In a Post-Apocalyptic world of Magic and Machinery, Jack Knight is an orphan who finds himself caught between a life-altering decision.

Join the military and fight the demon hordes or sell his soul to the Corpos. Both options having minimal appeal to a shut-in like Jack. Thanks to the high cost of living, and his sister’s medical expenses, Jack has never given much thought to what he’d want to do with life, always living paycheck to paycheck, scrounging just enough to keep the lights on and his sister safe. However, in a strange turn of events that nearly kills him, an Angel presents him with a third option.

Awaken and become her instrument of revenge with the ultimate power.

Well written

complaints first: sometimes, the systen check undercuts the urgency of whats happening.
- the system checks take a long time, i had a hard time deserning what changed. that could just be me tho.

praise: the story is well written, well paced, and well performed

Decent enough

Starting off, from the VA, I thought this was going to be a saucy book, but faaaar from it.

Jack is such a pansy. Yes, he has his SMALL moments where he isn’t, but for the vast majority he is just obviously manipulated by everyone. They tell this to his face while literally laughing and all he does is complain like a little b*tch. “But what about his sister?!?!?” He can help her and keep her safe but he doesn’t. He has a route that he never uses. Everyone around him lies. Oh suuure he gets upset, but all he does is make empty threats then continues on. Hell, even those who will die if he dies lie and manipulate him. Ridiculous. More over, since he was a child he was forced to take care of his sister; first due to a bad mom then a bad relative both of which should have done it, not him. He literally raised her and what happens? Just a few months being pampered and she disregards everything the MC has struggle and sacrificed for and acts like a little sh*t when she doesn’t get to go to war.

His OBSESSION with his sister is absolutely insane. There’s family love then there’s can’t think of anything but.

Accents. The female VA mixes up accents for some of the characters.

Then there’s the days in the mountains…what kind of shitty military country takes days to react to its planes being shot down and strategic resources being lost.

Also everyone is insulting the MC because he’s weak even though everyone has decades of fighting on him. Stupid.

OH! And lastly..,good lord PLEASE stop saying every line of his stats ESPECIALLY as often as it happens🤦‍♂️.

Lastly, you find out the MC’s mother did some messed up crap that turned her kids from wealthy noble officers to poor peasant cannon fodder. THEN that whole scene is just dropped and not touched on again.

False story impression

The impression is this is one of the adult harem type novel but it isn't. You should be truthful about your advertisement.

a great series

It's a great series with expansive lore, characters, and a fairly unique plot given the nature of it being a LITRPG. Having been a fan since its start on Royal Road, the story has had its ups and downs but has SO much going on that even the author has to pause to figure out how characters' actions affect the world around them and the numerous characters that seem like ACTUAL people.
For a single credit its a steal

An omnibus... is it really?

Ok, first of all.., I am a little disappointed to find out that the Omnibus only contains the first 3 books. Book 3 more or less ends in a cliff hanger and after research I find out that audiobooks for volume 4 and 5 were never done. Also the author may have abandoned the series and never completed book 6. He wrote a summary stub but has not added to it for over 22 months. Not a great sign after getting drawn into a series. I know it is a risk in some of the Litrpg series as many authors abandon their works. Hopefully this series will be completed. I have not read volumes 4 or 5 though and there is no Audible version yet - so here is to hoping its completed.

The narration and voice acting are done pretty well. I have no complaints about the voice acting. They seem pretty solid. I do like the fact that there are male and female voice actors. That is a nice touch.

One annoying thing though is the amount of time we spend reviewing the stats sheets. Having literally 5 minutes of stats being read all of a sudden in the middle of a battle or something gets old after a while. I know it is a mechanic to represent the "system" and its events, but literally the amount of narration and timing of that narration dedicated to reading stat charts and level ups wears on you. It gets old after a while. By the end of it I have really no idea what the purpose was and what stats I am even supposed to be paying attention to. So it ends up just losing the listener and adds some confusion to what could be a more solid story without all the stat interruptions.

It is what it is.

Has allot of good points but it starts "gritty" and becomes twisted. I got to the beginning of book three.

MC Ruined an otherwise good story

not a shocker if you've read other reviews for this series. I wanted to like it, I really did. I'de even say the first book is pretty fantastic. the problem with the MC isn't that he isn't some tactical genius or God of war who can never lose a fight, but that he never seems to even try to learn from his mistakes or have any proactive plans to solve his problems other than "need get stronker." from the moment the insiting incident happens to where I had to stop listening for my sanity, he is following someone else's plan (all while whining and moping about said plan.) both his allies and his main enemies are manipulating him, he's aware their manipulating him, he doesn't like it, but does nothing to even attempt to rectify the situation. the world is interesting, some of the other characters are memorable if not deep or particularly developed (which is pretty above average in the litepg space if we're being honest) but I just can't do it anymore. thanks for coming to my TED talk.
