Publisher's summary

Seventeen-year-old Maggie Travers used to sleep very well at night, until she slept in the old-fashioned canopy bed for the first time.

At first, Maggie couldn't believe her luck. When the family moved out of the house, they left a beautiful old-fashioned canopy bed in the room that was now hers. But when Maggie goes to sleep underneath the pretty pink canopy, she has a bad dream-a nightmare that jars her awake with her own piercing scream. Every night from then on, she relives the dream...watching as the same girl cries out for help...feeling helpless, as the girl is murdered before her eyes. Is her dream just a nightmare or is someone trying to warn her about a terrible danger lurking in her new home?

R. L. Stine has become a phenomena. He has written over three dozen mysteries and thrillers for young people and is reported to have outsold John Grisham.

Bad Dreams — R.L. Stine

Mr. Stine is the best storyteller. I never know where he is heading or where he will end up. Great suspense. Creepy and eerie. Love his work.

1 of my fave Fear Street book

Alyssa Bresnahan did a great job but the voice she gave Maggie's boyfriend wasn't believable but that didn't take away from the great plot and characters. Love love the ending.

A good Fear Street

Overall this is a nice little Fear Street novel. As usual in Fear Street the supernatural isn't as key as the horrors regular people inflict on each other. Nice moments of suspense, a good creepy mystery, and the narrator while unreliable is interesting. You get a good idea of the conflict the family is having in this story. The family had to move to a smaller home, has suffered a tragedy, and everyone is on edge from these changes. This stress is compounded because the main character and her sister have a very conflicted relationship.

The core idea of all this stress building on the character makes it believable that she is reacting poorly to the bad dreams mentioned in the book description. That and the suspense of how things are happening and why builds nicely. The solution is.... fine though I think the time table doesn't make a lot of sense. I do think the climax was good and well delivered. I'd also say there were some of the usual cliffhanger ends of chapters that should have gone on a little longer to build suspense up further for the overall story

So an overall fine Fear Street. Not a favorite but decently done. I think it works for its age group but seeing as the book came out in 1994 I'm not sure teens are reading this type of book anymore. I got it on sale but I don't think it really deserves to be this expensive.

I love fear street!

Wonderful unabridged audio production from the 90s! Wish there were more of them because I would love to listen to all the Fear Street books on audio.

Bored and dragged on

I struggled to listen to this one. It didn't keep my focus. I can't even think what it would be missing either.

Classic Quick Nostalgia with Great Atmosphere

Loved the story, tone, etc. The narrator did a fantastic job. Hate the “cover art”. The original ‘94 cover art is much better, though.
