About this listen

A tranquil village. A poisoned cupcake. A murdered vicar.

A simple case - or it should be. But all clues point to the Toot Hansell Women’s Institute, and Detective Inspector Adams is about to discover there’s much more to the W.I. than just bake sales and jam-making.

Alice Martin knows the ladies of the W.I. are not guilty. But she has a bigger problem. Toot Hansell has a large and dragonish secret, and she needs to keep the police well away from it. Beaufort Scales, High Lord of the Cloverly dragons, knows even better than Alice that the modern dragon only survives as long as no one knows they exist....

This investigation is about to take on dragonish proportions.

I didn’t guess the ending! Hurray!

This cozy murder mystery is perfect for a gray afternoon when you mostly want to sit on the couch and dream of dragons and Victoria sponge. Delightful!

Fun Cozy Mystery... but with dragons

1st - I am LOVING Kim M Watt - I checked out her website to see if I could get more info on what happened in London. She reads tidbits of her books & misc other writings & they are delicious!! I enjoyed the Beaufort Scales books BUT I really am looking forward to the Gobbelino London series and especially What Happened in London. I got the 1st chapter or two on her site & was immediately wanting to hear the rest. I even put that actual book on my Christmas list. I seldom actually read these days since I have very limited time along with having dyslexia & AD/HD. Reading is hard, as it has always been, except now I don't have the time to wade my way thru an actual book. So I love listening to someone read and I do it voraciously. Everything from Samuel Pepys Diaries to Sci-Fi & fantasy to general fiction to mysteries to classics...everything.
2nd - OK about this series - It is fluffy & fun & funny. Your classic English village murder mysteries... you know tea, cakes, the WI &.... dragons. They are light, well written & Kim Watt is delightful. If you are looking for an easy fun read with a nice little mystery and dragons... you will LOVE them.
By the way, if you like this series try Quenby Olson's Miss Percy's Series "Pocket Guide to the Care & feeding of British Dragons" & "Travel Guide to Welsh Moors and Feral Dragons" books (also on Audible) I am looking forward to the 3rd of that series.

Fabulously Fun ..!!..

I loved this especially because of the narrator… she has captured the essence of droll British humor.

Very entertaining

A cute, lighthearted mystery with the added bonus of dragons! What's not to like? The narrator was pretty good as well, just a couple of areas where she paused too long, and she had an odd way of emphasizing Alice's name at times.

Very fun!

I wasn’t sure if I would like this story when I first started it but all of the characters, magic and non-magic, really grew on me. I ended up to throughly enjoying this book and I’m looking forward to the next the series. I think this is going to be a very fun series!

Five stars all the way

Oh, my goodness, this series is a delight! Really, it has everything: baking, old women taking charge, utterly matter of fact diversity, dragons and a host of other "folk." And it is funny, really funny without being crude or mean. It's cozy without being twee or sappy and the succeeding books in the series just get better. I usually read for the mystery, but these would be totally enjoyable even without one. Highly recommend.
